There’s a joke book that this kid is reading that’s nothing but homophobic jokes and the parents are just laughing it off. There’s encouraging innocence and normalizing behavior. This is the kind of stuff that people grow up using as a “defense” for their bigotry when they get older. It’s not even like they’re attempting to highlight why said jokes are bad (punch down jokes are almost always bad).

I got my first job as a BBS sysop in 1994, when I was 15 - which turned into a website development job in 1995. £5 an hour after school. OTOH, it took me almost a full year after graduating with an honors degree in CS to find a full-time job in Edinburgh.
