It's always design week for me. It's design year. Design life.

Keeping it personal

I just read this great essay by Matthias Ott. It does a great job of summarizing the state of affairs of blogging and social media, and how we can try to escape the current orbit to get back to where the web was meant to be. I especially like the bit about “Don’t do it like me. Do it like you.” Because that is exactly why I’ve been building Publ the way I have; I have specific goals in mind for how I manage, maintain, and organize my site, and these goals are very different than what other existing blogging and site-management software has in mind. The fact that I post so many different kinds of content and that they need different organizational structures to make sense makes this a somewhat unique problem. I’d like to think that Publ is a very general piece of web-publishing software, but it’s probably so general because I have such specific needs. Which makes for an interesting paradox, I suppose. I guess what I’m saying is that I want to see more types of web-based publishing where the schema and layout fit the content, not the other way around. But it also needs to be able to interoperate with other stuff, while still making sense from a producer-consumer UX perspective.
Lol, being in Portland, I’ve had more beers than I had all spring in Oakland. Things are a WEE bit closer together here than from where I stay in Oakland so it might be encouraging that. (v2.jacky.wtf/post/646f9bcf-…)
Yay. I'm flying out to Portland on Friday for the @IndieWebSummit. I booked my flight, hotel, and really looking forward to catching up with my Indie Web friends. Long live semantic code and owning your own data.
It's design week and I'm home planning my design week at the end of July. :P

Yes, they got partnerships (let’s say those remain intact)?

Not picking on Apple - they have a more ‘direct to consumer’ approach than Microsoft or Google.

Apple is killing it with CoreML, Metal Performance Shaders, and the Vision framework. Don't believe me? Introducing VNAnimalDetectorCat. There is a fracking cat detector...

If you’re not paying attention to the DA election in Queens, you should be. It’s tight but no matter what happens, it’s seismic. Crossing my fingers that progressive values will win here too. 🤞
I created a new Twitter account @PoliticalAndi to talk about politics. Let's see if I can get myself into the habit of switching accounts.
The obvious conclusion to all of these individual subscription streaming services is a bundle where you can pay for all of them at a comparatively lower price, which ultimately will make it impossible to buy them a la carte as providers compete.
NYC: where can I watch the debate tomorrow? Other than alone in my AirBnb, obvs.

Its not like Blu-Ray and DVD are completely dead yet. Buy the entire series for cheap! Rip it! Store it on your laptop, phone, or tablet! You could also just buy the entire thing on iTunes, though that’ll cost you a lot more, and is closer to renting than you think...
