"text": "POSSE is an abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere, a content publishing model that starts with posting content on your own domain first, then syndicating out copies to 3rd party services with permashortlinks back to the original on your site https://indieweb.org/POSSEthis reader is great for following IndieWeb folks, but I also use if for a lot of other stuff. I don't use Instagram, but I have an Instagram. I have a lot of friends that I follow on there and through another tool, build by Ryan Barrett, I'm able to take my Instagram feeds, pull them in through my reader and check them out here and if there's something that I like, I can like it on my site. If there's something I want to reply to, I can do that on my site. And if I want to do that on Instagram, as well -- oh, yeah, let's see. It's one of my pirate friends in Baltimore. I can look at all this stuff without having to load up Instagram. Without having to have Facebook cook as tracking me about and it feels like a little step more free. And, you knowGlad we can model how hard live demos can be in a speech.iOS talk...blah blah blah...still awesome stuff!!!\nIf you have an iOS device, you're going to want to play with shortcuts because this is where IndieWeb building blocks actually come into your hands. In a minor fit of rage overnight, I copied my website, changed every reference to Michelle to use my middle name, Jordan, and put it up at a different domain. Took my resume, stripped out everything that made it pretty because if it's pretty, it's probably a girl. And, removed all of my leadership and volunteer experience like for Women Who Code. Within two weeks, I had four interviews.The pressures of gender and the bias in work place. So glad we have people like Jordan and Michelle all fighting for the Me(s)\nBut people were getting confused because they'd go to my Jordan resume and go to my LinkedIn and it's Michelle. They're like, you don't know what you're doing, you can't even link to the right social pages. So, I ended up really having to do all-in and change my identity absolutely everywhere. I created new domain name. I had to change my Twitter. Get a new Twitter. New GitHub, new Instagram. All the things. Just to get a job. "text": "I'm talking on contractions and expansions. We start our journey with our world shaking. It explodes into an immeasurable expanse and we are left in cycles of contractions and expansions. Until, like hamlet, we shuffle off this mortal coil because fundamentally, this is what life is about.\n\u00a0\nWhat a great storyteller!. I love dualism in talks, provides such a powerful narrative path for any taleWe are sometimes criticized for our gender or our non-gender, for the color of our hair or the color of our skin. For simply being who we are. As if being ourselves is somehow wrong. We know it isn't. But we contract into ourselves nonetheless. And then we find our tribe.Find your tribeHow easy is it to flitter out into the silos to share our lives? The silos are easy. They are popular and they are cool. Don't we all want to be cool? We make connections and we join new networks and we expand again. We trade privacy for that ease. We hand our data over. We expand someway even though we lose a little bit. We can justify that little bit. It's a small amount of loss, right?We can do this togetherEach of these are correct and they are incomplete. Each silo is only a part of the picture of who we are. Our memories fade, the fish become bigger. The intensity of the moment lessens. The wounds heal over and we tell our tales from the position of an observer instead of a participant. The narrator instead of the her OE of our own story. We see the data that we want to track and we track it not because some corporate entity wants to sell us something we don't need, but rather because it is important to us. The data delights us. We see patterns about ourselves and we expand. We can look back at who we thought we were. We can see who we really were. Who we are and most importantly, we can see the trends towards who we want to become",

"text": "I am sitting in Mozilla #PDX awaiting the start of #IndieWeb Summit. I am so excited to gatrher with so many people who want to help drive us to a better web.So much talk around the web focuses on fourteen different shades of decentralization with everyone more right than the other.I often say I want a hyper local web first, and by this I mean community must stay central to all decentralization efforts.To this end I want to root the web in schools and libraries....where #literacies always belong, and to make this happen I am seeking funding for small projects through grantsIndieWeb GrantsPeople ofte irk me when I hear, \"IndieWeb doesn't scale\" It's not just broken metrics built on venture capital models of 10x returns. We know this leads to surveillance capitalism. It's more that it undermines that literacy is hard, and we can all learn to read, write, and participate online if we just had frictionless tools.Piagets, Vygotsky, Activity Theory they all note the central conflict in learning the web is different. So what do we know about teaching literacy? A bunch, but mainly community is the curriculum. To focus on this and not code I am seeking funding. We can do this. 2019 1,400,000 #QuestionTheWeb: Critical Evaluation and Argumentative Writing. IES. UnfundedWe put this grant in with the National Writing Project. The goal was everyone to get a site and then interacting in a simulated social media envrionment with biased avatart\n\n 2019 50,000 #CheckoutMyDomain. Spencer Small Research Grant. UnfundedI love this grant. I want it funded. Do you know people that are stupid rich? Get them to give me money. The goal is to have librarian patrons check out their domains with a library card. These would be archived locally...because libraries...and they attend training sessions to renew the domain. This project would scale because the community is in place.\n\n 2019 147,000 Shaping our Worlds and Exploring Our We(s): WebVR and Computer Science Ethics. Mozilla. Unfunded\nThis grant involved getting your own website and then learning a-frame for WebVR to build case studies to learn ethics in computer science.\n\n 2019 200,000 Creating Community for Open Pedagogy: Adding a Social Reader. SBIR IES. UnfundedI wrote this grant with the Known Collective. The goal was to create a federated OER network. This is built on our model in Ghana.2019\u00a0 $200 OER Network in Accra, Ghana. Funded\nFor just two hundred the Global Innovation Fund has able to create an OER Network. Everyone gets a website. We have a wiki for shared knowledge, and we have a matrix chat room using riot.im.There are numerous people waiting to copy this model across the globe. Do you wave $200 to lend to good?\n\n 2019 300,000 Recentering STEM Education in Marginalized Communities. NSF. PendingWorking on this grant, but hit the pause button until I can get better a Person of Color as a a co-PI and better representation on the Scientific Advisory Board.Scale Communities Before CodeWe can fix the web but we can't do this by only focusing on the web. I am so excited to gatrher with so many people who want to help drive us to a better web.</p><p>So much talk around the web focuses on fourteen different shades of decentralization with everyone more right than the other.</p><p>I often say I want a hyper local web first, and by this I mean community must stay central to all decentralization efforts.</p><p>To this end I want to root the web in schools and libraries....where <a href=\"https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/tag/literacies\" class=\"p-category\">#literacies</a> always belong, and to make this happen I am seeking funding for small projects through grants</p><h2><span>IndieWeb Grants</span></h2><p><span>People ofte irk me when I hear, \"IndieWeb doesn't scale\" </span></p><p><span>It's not just broken metrics built on venture capital models of 10x returns. We know this leads to surveillance capitalism. It's more that it undermines that literacy is hard, and we can all learn to read, write, and participate online if we just had frictionless tools.</span></p><p><span>Piagets, Vygotsky, Activity Theory they all note the central conflict in learning the web is different. So what do we know about teaching literacy?</span></p><p><span> A bunch, but mainly community is the curriculum. To focus on this and not code I am seeking funding. We can do this. </span></p><h3>2019 1,400,000 <a href=\"https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/tag/QuestionTheWeb\" class=\"p-category\">#QuestionTheWeb</a>: Critical Evaluation and Argumentative Writing. IES. Unfunded</h3><p>We put this grant in with the National Writing Project. The goal was everyone to get a site and then interacting in a simulated social media envrionment with biased avatart</p><h3>\n<br /> 2019 50,000 <a href=\"https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/tag/CheckoutMyDomain\" class=\"p-category\">#CheckoutMyDomain</a>. Spencer Small Research Grant. Unfunded</h3><p>I love this grant. I want it funded. Do you know people that are stupid rich? Get them to give me money. The goal is to have librarian patrons check out their domains with a library card. These would be archived locally...because libraries...and they attend training sessions to renew the domain. This project would scale because the community is in place.</p><h3>\n<br /><strong> 2019 147,000 Shaping our Worlds and Exploring Our We(s): WebVR and Computer Science Ethics. Mozilla. Unfunded</strong>\n</h3><p>This grant involved getting your own website and then learning a-frame for WebVR to build case studies to learn ethics in computer science.</p><h3>\n<br /> 2019 200,000 Creating Community for Open Pedagogy: Adding a Social Reader. SBIR IES. Unfunded</h3><p>I wrote this grant with the Known Collective. The goal was to create a federated OER network. This is built on our model in Ghana.</p><h3><strong>2019\u00a0 $200 OER Network in Accra, Ghana. Funded<br /></strong></h3><p>For just two hundred the Global Innovation Fund has able to create an OER Network. Everyone gets a website. We have a wiki for shared knowledge, and we have a matrix chat room using riot.im.</p><p>There are numerous people waiting to copy this model across the globe. Do you wave $200 to lend to good?</p><h3>\n<br /> 2019 300,000 Recentering STEM Education in Marginalized Communities. NSF. Pending</h3><p>Working on this grant, but hit the pause button until I can get better a Person of Color as a a co-PI and better representation on the Scientific Advisory Board.</p><h2>Scale Communities Before Code</h2><p>We can fix the web but we can't do this by only focusing on the web. We need to grow the <a href=\"https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/tag/literacies\" class=\"p-category\">#literacies</a> of children and root this in places where learning always thrives: schools, libraries, and clubs.</p><p>Come hang with us.
