        "html": "<p>Inspired by <a href=\"https://datnight.org/\">Dat Night</a>, today I\u2019m working on making my site available on the <a href=\"https://dat.foundation/\">Dat network</a>.  For my <a href=\"https://github.com/miklb/jekyll-indieweb\">jekyll-indieweb</a> site, the main idea is that I should be able to do</p>\n\n<p><code>jekyll build</code></p>\n\n<p><code>dat share _site</code></p>\n\n<p>which should mostly get me there. IndieWeb Summit 2019 – Hack Day Recap

        "html": "<p>Today is day two of IndieWeb Summit 2019, emphasizing hands-on experimentation to learn more about the IndieWeb, improve your web site, and/or help other folks with their own projects.  My goal for the day was to resolve a number of the issues I was having getting core IndieWeb functionality working with my WordPress based blog. Thanks to some great help from David Shanske and <a href=\"https://jackjamieson.net/\">Jack Jamieson</a> (plus the power of hands-on tinkering), here\u2019s what I accomplished:</p>\n<ul><li>Adopted a WordPress theme that\u2019s both fully compatible with IndieWeb protocols and microformats and visually appealing to me.  Specifically I installed and switched to IW26 \u2014 David Shanske\u2019s <a href=\"https://github.com/dshanske/iw26\">fork</a> of the WordPress 2016 standard theme.</li>\n<li>Enabled support for IndieAuth, WebMention and MicroPublish endpoints by adding the right &lt;link&gt; elements to my home page.  As part of that learned how to use the Microformats parser on <a href=\"https://php.microformats.io/\">microformats.io</a> to examine and debug my own settings.</li>\n<li>Set up an .htaccess file in my site\u2019s home directory with rules to properly handle redirection to https: and to dereference  the www. prefix to site URLs.  Made the appropriate matching adjustments in WordPress and my Dreamhost admin panel.</li>\n<li>Developed a better understanding of WordPress Post Kinds (after all, David wrote the plugin), customized the set to fit what I\u2019m likely to use when I post, and tested a few.</li>\n<li>Added rel-me connections to my blog for Flickr and Instagram using the WordPress widget.</li>\n<li>Tested use of Quill as a micropublishing client. Successfully posted a note to my blog from <a href=\"https://quill.p3k.io/new\">Quill</a> in Firefox on an Android phone.</li>\n<li>Tested WebMention support thanks to Jack, resulting in a series of comments on our respective sites (and also highlighting a formatting bug he was able to fix on his custom WordPress theme with some help from David).</li>\n<li>Added Syndication Link support and tested it by posting a review to TripAdvisor.com and a companion note on my blog reference that review.</li>\n</ul><p>This got me over the WordPress vs. IndieWeb theme problem I\u2019d been struggling with and hoped to resolve today, and a lot more overall IndieWeb functionality as a bonus. PAX Prime 2013 – First Impressions

        "html": "<p>Thanks to special help from a good friend my son and I had a chance to attend this year\u2019s PAX Prime conference.   In 2004 Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, creators of the \u201cPenny Arcade\u201d web comic, decided the world needed a conference solely dedicated to celebrating gamer culture and the Penny Arcade eXpo (PAX) was born.  Originally hosted just in Seattle, PAX is now a global phenomenon with events in Boston (PAX East), Melbourne Australia (PAX Australia) and still in Seattle (PAX Prime).  As long-time game players my son and I had talked about attending PAX but had never managed it, so were absolutely delighted when the opportunity arose this year.</p>\n<p>Naturally the first year at a conference is a major learning experience, especially a large and diverse one like PAX Prime.  We were only attending for just over one day out of the four days overall so had to make some compromises in what we attempted to do.  Here are some highlights of our rookie experience, which will definitely help us plan for return visits (if we\u2019re lucky enough to get tickets) and perhaps inform others as well.</p>\n<p><strong>See new games</strong> \u2013 Game publishers like to use PAX to showcase games that are close to being launched. This means attendees have lots of opportunities to take a look at pre-released game content. This year we saw/played \u201c<em>Borderlands 2: TK Baha\u2019s Bloody Harvest</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>XCOM: Enemy Within</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>Wolfenstein: The New Order</em>\u201c, and some great indie games such as \u201c<em>Escape Goat 2</em>\u201d and \u201c<em>Audiosurf 2</em>\u201c.</p>\n<p><strong>Try existing games</strong> \u2013 In addition to unreleased games PAX offers ample opportunity to play current games that you just haven\u2019t had the time (or money) to try.  We checked out \u201c<em>Dragon\u2019s Prophet</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>Assassin\u2019s Creed IV</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>The Bureau: XCOM Declassified</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>Rogue Legacy</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>Portal 2</em>\u201c, \u201c<em>Left 4 Dead 2</em>\u201c, and \u201c<em>Transistor</em>\u201c. Often these games are used to help demo gaming gear in vendor booths.  The NVIDIA booth was a great place to play games while at the same time see new graphics cards and handhelds.</p>\n<p><strong>Visit the Free Play areas</strong> \u2013 When you need a break from the expo and panels go find one of the free play areas and plop down in front of a PC or console to unwind with some games.  The PC area has hundreds of high-end machines each with dozens of pre-loaded games and while we didn\u2019t visit the console area I presume it\u2019s equally large.   Free play is limited to 45 minutes at a time so while there may a line of folks waiting for a chance to play the line moves pretty steadily.  The area is managed by a timekeeper that can allocate groups of people to adjacent available computers, enabling co-op group free play if you like.  (We had all kinds of trouble with the voice chat set-up so being next to each other is the only way you can game together.)  Free play areas are open late into the evening so you can get in some game play after the expo closes and panels end, though lines are longer then as a result.</p>\n<p><strong>Check out new gamer gear</strong> \u2013 Vendors like Corsair, NVIDIA, Skullcandy, Kingston, and Logitech, are on hand to show off current and new gaming gear including graphics cards, keyboards, mice, headsets, and accessories (like the Stinky Footboard and Cooler Master Skorpion). It\u2019s great to be able to ask in-depth questions, try everything out, and compare performance in real game situations. You may also be able to take advantage of special show prices or packages.</p>\n<p><strong>Go Indie</strong> \u2013 The \u201cIndie Megabooth\u201d is a special area of the expo set aside just for indie games, and you should definitely spend time there to talk to the developers and share in their creative energy.  Equally important is the \u201c<a href=\"http://prime.paxsite.com/pax10\">PAX 10</a>\u201c, a collection of ten indie games selected by a panel of experts for exemplary game play and fun.  The PAX 10 was not part of the Indie Megabooth so we made sure to reserve time to see both areas.</p>\n<p><strong>Decide how much you want to stand in line</strong> \u2013 Mobs of people will stand for hours in long lines just for a glimpse at a new game or a chance at some special give-aways.   Ask what a line is for and decide how long you\u2019re willing to wait.</p>\n<p><strong>Collect &amp; Scavenge</strong> \u2013 Acquiring and trading collectable pins and buttons has long been an aspect of PAX Prime and it has become a formal part of the conference through \u201c<a href=\"http://www.penny-arcade.com/pinny-arcade/category/pax-prime\">Pinny Arcade\u201d</a>. You\u2019ll see lots of folks wearing lots of pins and buttons, and they\u2019re generally looking to trade to grow their collection. Also, several vendors offer scavenger hunt promotions in which you need to visit different booths, collect stamps or information (or both), then redeem the full set for some prize.  PAX Prime does this too by hiding special QR codes throughout the venue and encouraging you to collect them all and earn a special \u201cPAX XP\u201d prize.</p>\n<p>Overall PAX Prime was an extraordinary experience and is well worth attending for any gamer even if you can only get there for a day.</p>\n<p>I\u2019ll have more to add in a separate post on my impressions of particular games and gear.</p>",

WordPress enables easy customization through add-on themes, hundreds of which have been created by the community and shared freely across WordPress sites.  I\u2019m using the \u2018<a href=\"http://wordpress.org/themes/admired\">Admired</a>\u2018 theme by Brad Thomas with its Orange skin, plus some minor modifications by me to better match the rest of orangemoose.com and suit my personal tastes.</p>\n<p>Most of the content is rendered using the open source \u2018PT Sans\u2019 font by ParaType, available through <a href=\"http://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/PT+Sans\">Google Fonts</a>.
