"text": "\u00a0The study of self-directed learning began a \u00a0graduate students of Cyril Houle, who studied \u201cstudy of self-educating people\u201d developed an idea for a thesis while taking a programming class with Dr Houle to study \u201cthe concept of a \u2018learner learning something on his . . . [or] her own. \u201d\u00a0Allen Tough completed his research on \u201cself-teaching\u201d in 1966. \u00a0Simultaneously, since the 1950s,\u00a0 Malcolm Knowles, another of Houle\u2019s students, who researched adult learning, had been focusing in on \u201cself-direction.\u201d Knowles published a book in 1975 entitled \u201cSelf Directed Learning.\u201d \u00a0These three scientists, and self-directed learning,\u00a0 hold the top spots in citations around adult learning (it works in kid learning too...I don't really buy a difference between adult and children learning....literally almost everything that works in preschool works better with adults).\u00a0Yet what happens when you aren't so much self-directed but learning within a network?\u00a0 Do we need new models to account for access to mentors and\u00a0 a web of knowledge?\u00a0",
