Welcome to Estonia, I registered for residency (and both "Estonian Tax Payer") status via email last year -- in fact I even remember sending the email from FOSDEM. 🤷
@_Phelan_ did it on the web b/c he's a big nerd (but also b/c now there's an English-speaking website for this)
but we couldn't get an appointment to register until after the brexit date. I was panicking, checking every day for cancelled appointments so we could get in earlier

I frequently think and observe (possibly with a level of envy?) at the cohesiveness of the platform (in most cases) in the Apple ecosystem. There’s some work right now in the FreeDesktop-land world that’s getting closer to this with the growth of Wayland - I remember reading something on the KDE planet about how it can be used with things like systemd to help make running graphical applications more secure (cgroups, restrictions, etc).
I really do hope that more work in the open space is being invested - we’re getting closer and closer to complete and absolute vendor lock-in with a lot of things and when things smack the world more, we’ll need some sort of an option. Neither Google, Microsoft or Apple can explicitly provide this (they’ve helped erect this new landscape for profit.

The DOM is slow.
VDOM is fast.
You need to write React components for fast web UIs.
Web components failed, nobody uses them.
