"text": "The (not-legal-advice) consensus I\u2019ve gotten from people regarding the trademark is that:\nBecause I\u2019ve been releasing as Sockpuppet since 2006 that gives me a claim to protect my own interests in case someone else tries to sue me over the name\nBecause other people have been releasing as Sockpuppet since that time I can\u2019t trademark the name because they also have prior uses to the name pre-trademark\nSo, trying to pursue the trademark would just be a huge waste of time and money and effort.Meanwhile, this has been an amazing way to end up on a lot of predatory spam lists from IP lawyers. I\u2019ve been getting dozens of emails from trademark law firms ever since the rejection. Thanks, public records. \ud83d\ude44",
