A personalized record of content you post on the web.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Web</strong>: a shortening of <strong>World-Wide Web</strong>. A global network of hypertext documents all linking to each other.</p>\n\n<p>So then, why is it rare to find anyone actually doing this with their blog? \ud83e\udd14</p>\n\n<p>There\u2019s a term in IndieWeb circles called <a href=\"https://indieweb.org/POSSE\">Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere</a> (or <strong>POSSE</strong>). It sort of captures an aspect of that idea\u2026basically you use your own blog to publish thoughts, link commentary, photos, videos, newsletters, etc., and then disseminate that content out to other services (YouTube, Twitter, mailing lists, your own RSS feed, etc.)</p>\n\n<p>I tried <strong>POSSE</strong> in a previous incarnation of this site. <em>I ended up not liking it.</em> It doesn\u2019t capture the workflows I instinctively prefer on a regular basis, nor how I wish the <a href=\"https://jaredwhite.com/tag/openweb\">#openweb</a> really functioned.</p>\n\n<p>What I want to do is the exact opposite! IndieWeb also provides a term for this: <a href=\"https://indieweb.org/PESOS\">Publish Elsewhere, Syndicate (to your) Own Site</a> (or <strong>PESOS</strong>). They don\u2019t recommend it, and the wiki page enumerates some of the reasons why. But I have come to realize I prefer <strong>PESOS</strong> for a lot of the content I produce, because it\u2019s generally <em>way</em> easier and the UX is <em>way</em> better.</p>\n\n<ul><li>I <em>like</em> \u201cmicroblogging\u201d on Twitter.</li>\n <li>I <em>like</em> posting videos on YouTube.</li>\n <li>I <em>like</em> writing newsletter issues in <a href=\"https://convertkit.com/\">ConvertKit</a>.</li>\n <li>I <em>like</em> uploading podcast episodes to <a href=\"https://buzzsprout.com/\">Buzzsprout</a>. (I don\u2019t for this site, but I do use it for the <a href=\"https://www.fullstackruby.dev/topics/podcast\">Fullstack Ruby</a> podcast.)</li>\n <li>I <em>like</em> posting photos on\u2026well, certainly not Instagram any more. \ud83d\ude02 <a href=\"https://glass.photo/\">Glass</a> is pretty rad, but I haven\u2019t determined if I want to reserve it for the \u201cfancy\u201d photos I take with my \u201cfancy\u201d camera, or simply give up and flood it with on-the-go iPhone snaps.</li>\n <li>I <em>like</em> <a href=\"https://yarred.bandcamp.com/\">releasing music</a> on Bandcamp. (Honestly, I don\u2019t know of any indie musician who <em>doesn\u2019t</em> use Bandcamp at this point!)</li>\n</ul><p>So the question then becomes: how do I post all this content elsewhere, then <em>transparently</em> pull in links and import content back to my own <a href=\"https://jaredwhite.com/tag/website\">#website</a>? Of course on a technical level, it means I\u2019ll be writing lots of Ruby plugins for <a href=\"https://www.bridgetownrb.com/\">Bridgetown</a>, the software I use to build my website. But I\u2019m always musing on workflows that can be easily applied to <em>the industry of blogging</em> as a whole. I haven\u2019t seen much evidence anyone\u2019s truly cracked this nut. Also admittedly, dragging your own content in kicking and screaming from third-party silos is often less than straightforward (hence the notion of <strong>POSSE</strong>), because they have a vested interest <em>not</em> to let you feature your own content on your own website. (YouTube remains sort of a weird outlier here because they make it easy to embed videos anywhere, and <a href=\"https://youtube-dl.org/\">youtube-dl</a> is certainly a thing.)</p>\n\n<p>Still, I\u2019m motivated to figure this stuff out. I wish there was a better blogging/newsletter platform out there.
(I don't like Substack at all.)
Revue was cool, but now I wouldn't recommend it because Twitter "the corporation" is currently in a meltdown.
Real blogs often seem disconnected from a solid newsletter strategy.

You wanna know how I know I'm getting old? I had the audacity to stay out til 9:45PM on a Saturday night roller skating stone cold sober, not drink quite enough water, and sleep 8 hours. Now it's 5:30PM and Sunday and I still feel like death warmed over.
