Engagement is Not Engagement

Working on introducing venues to my site….URLs that represent a specific place, as opposed to location, which I already have at /location, which represents posts in a city or town. Hoping to have it done before I go places on the 8th. (dshanske.com/t/1_T)
Why don’t people wear hats outdoors anymore in large numbers? In the past, it was considered inappropriate to go bareheaded in some contexts. (dshanske.com/t/1_R)
Okay everybody it's Zero Hour for this website, post your favorite tweets and give them a little kiss goodbye.

I don’t often say there oughta be a law, but this is going to be one of those times. I’m pretty sure there is one, though: the ADA. Thiis is clearly not a reasonable accommodation of those with compromised immunity twitter.com/madelineindc/s…

I am outraged. This signage by @TheWharfDC says NO MASKS—a critical and lifesaving public health intervention—are allowed on Wharf property. Meanwhile, we are still e...
Fair question! There’s only so much awesomeness that we can send to a conference at one time! Having @ericsmalling and @mattj_io already put us over the quota on awesomeness…

It’s taken me way too long to grasp that @zachleat’s excellent <is-land> tag is framework-agnostic… which means… in @bridgetownrb grab an esbuild entrypoint, throw it in an <is-land>, and get deferred/lazy-loaded frontend UI! bridgetownrb.com/docs/frontend-… github.com/11ty/is-land
I am so digging the Vangelis/Tangerine Dream vibe on the ep 8 soundtrack for #Andor

Fire from last night update: the smoke in the area is terrible. All of me smells of smoke. The fire crews are still watering down the smoking building. Hey, it is raining! No, hailing. No, raining. Now hailing. Rain. I was able to retrieve some things, including my car. Yay!
So…my latest thinking on Elon taking over Twitter. In the short term, things may actually improve. Mostly technical in nature. Maybe he can help get their business model and finances on track. In the long run…I expect “free speech maximalism” will pretty much ruin everything.
Ok, seriously- fuck Budget and other car rental companies that disable CarPlay so that you’ll rent their crappy gps. On Toyota vehicles, you can go to Menu > Projection and answer Yes to reenable. Post solutions from other manufacturers if you know them!

Big ups to my brain for putting me in a protective coma because one thing went slightly wrong in my day-to-day life
Checking out the @economist #metaverse summit through their @virbela app. Another example of an awful experience: buggy, slow, and nothing interesting to do in 3D space. Is there nobody doing "product"/"design", fit for purpose kind of work in the metaverse? How hard can it be?
The problem with “free speech maximalism” is that it actually stifles free speech—the free speech of the marginalized and the oppressed—while rewarding the baddest of bad actors. I’m sorry, I *won’t* defend your right to say “it” — if by “it” you mean hatred and willful lies.
