"text": "So, in the past, the \u201cSimply Cheetos\u201d brand of Cheetos didn\u2019t use monosodium glutamate in it, so it was a safe thing for me to eat.Today when buying lunch at the grocery store, I saw that they had the Flamin' Hot Simply Cheetos, so I bought a bag, and did a cursory glance of the ingredients list and didn\u2019t see MSG on them. Then I had a bunch with dinner, and noticed a rather strong umami flavor (but not the same one that I normally associate with MSG), and paid it no mind.Later in the evening I started having a really bad bowel reaction to something and started looking at the ingredients listings of everything I ate today to see what it could be, and that\u2019s when I noticed MSG on the Cheetos label.However, I don\u2019t think it was the Cheetos' MSG that did this! In fact I think I might actually no longer be MSG-sensitive. And looking back, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve had an MSG reaction ever since I did the ketamine treatments in March. There have been a whole lot of unexpected neurological changes that did happen then; ever since those treatments, caffeine doesn\u2019t give me a massive panic attack when I have as little as half of an espresso, and sucralose doesn\u2019t give me a headache anymore either.All three of those food sensitivities are highly co-occurrent with people with fibromyalgia, which was the main thing I was trying to treat with ketamine. While the chronic pain and fatigue symptoms haven\u2019t gone away (and those were the main things I was trying to treat!) it\u2019s possible that ketamine at least did have some beneficial effect.I\u2019m still not going to rush out and like. Consume all the MSG, just as I don\u2019t rush out and consume all the sucralose/Stevia/etc. either and still prefer decaffeinated beverages for a bunch of reasons (although it\u2019s nice being able to self-medicate my ADHD again!), but maybe I don\u2019t need to worry about those causing unexpected problems anymore.Anyway. All this is to say that I still absolutely believe that MSG sensitivity is a thing (based on my prior experiences) but also it might be possible to get away from it! What would you put in your go bag and how can you do it quickly?\u00a0\nObviously, doing a full data export would be a wise move, but recent reports are that it is taking three or more days for those to process and get sent out. (What if it doesn\u2019t last that long?) Worse, it\u2019s not always the sort of usable data you\u2019d want to have when moving somewhere else. What can you do to save as much usable data as quickly as possible?\nBelow are some quick and dirty tools for stocking your go bag:\nhttps://listfollowers.com/ will access the Twitter API to pull out your followers, followees, and mutuals (people you\u2019re following who follow you back). You can save these as a .csv or .json files for use or import to other tools.\n\u00a0https://opml.glitch.me/ will query Twitter and provide you with the web pages and feeds of your friends so that you can follow them in a feed reader. It also provides you with an .opml file which many feed readers can import so that you can automatically follow all your friends by other methods.\nhttps://fedifinder.glitch.me/ is a tool for tracking where your friends have decamped within the Fediverse. It will allow you to extract the Fediverse handles (where available) of your Twitter followings or list members and import them into Mastodon to follow them all at once. If this is your exit strategy, be sure to add your own Mastodon address to your Twitter profile or bio to help others find you as you all orderly file to the exit while the building burns down behind you.\nhttps://pruvisto.org/debirdify/ is another tool for moving some of your Twitter data over to Mastodon or other parts of the Fediverse.\n\nhttps://bridge.birb.space/ is an instance for helping to bridge the move from Twitter to an ActivityPub-based site (like Mastodon).\n\nhttps://twitodon.com/ is yet another tool to help you find your Twitter friends on Mastodon.\nOne Last Heist\nOf course if things continue to devolve, but you have some extra time for one last go, consider carefully your exit strategy and why and what you hope to get out of the experience.\u00a0\nMany have left to go to Mastodon. While Mastodon represents a step up in terms of choice, freedom and flexibility over Twitter, I know we can still do better for both user interface as well as a more humane social media experience.\nMy personal suggestion for a quick and dirty escape is to go IndieWeb and have and use your own domain name and website to become your personal home on the web. If you\u2019ve got the technical chops, our friends at IndieWebCamp have some help and pointers waiting for you. If you\u2019re stuck and have some means, Micro.blog is a great way to go IndieWeb and own all your content while still being able to interact with a large number of other IndieWeb sites as well as Twitter and Mastodon if you choose. Plans there are $5 a month and are an exceptional deal.\u00a0\nOther options are to move to other blogging platforms like Tumblr, which has shown interest in adding IndieWeb building blocks, WordPress.com, and Blogger.\u00a0\u00a0\nOther options?\nWhat export options have I missed? (Keep in mind that we all know there are lots of command line options that dovetail with APIs and require advanced knowledge of programming. We\u2019re specifically looking for quick and dirty options that are immediately usable by the masses, preferably with directions or suggests as to what can be done with the outputs.)\u00a0\nWhat other options are there for easy migration that still allow people to stay connected with their friends and family? What would you put in your go bag and how can you do it quickly?\u00a0</p>\n<p>Obviously, doing a <a href=\"https://indieweb.org/Twitter#How_to_export_your_data\">full data export</a> would be a wise move, but recent reports are that it is taking three or more days for those to process and get sent out. (What if it doesn\u2019t last that long?) Worse, it\u2019s not always the sort of usable data you\u2019d want to have when moving somewhere else. What can you do to save as much usable data as quickly as possible?</p>\n<p>Below are some quick and dirty tools for stocking your go bag:</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://listfollowers.com/\">https://listfollowers.com/</a> will access the Twitter API to pull out your followers, followees, and mutuals (people you\u2019re following who follow you back). You can save these as a .csv or .json files for use or import to other tools.</p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"https://opml.glitch.me/\">https://opml.glitch.me/</a> will query Twitter and provide you with the web pages and feeds of your friends so that you can follow them in a feed reader. It also provides you with an .opml file which many feed readers can import so that you can automatically follow all your friends by other methods.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://fedifinder.glitch.me/\">https://fedifinder.glitch.me/</a> is a tool for tracking where your friends have decamped within the Fediverse. It will allow you to extract the Fediverse handles (where available) of your Twitter followings or list members and import them into Mastodon to follow them all at once. If this is your exit strategy, be sure to add your own Mastodon address to your Twitter profile or bio to help others find you as you all orderly file to the exit while the building burns down behind you.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/\">https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/</a> is another tool for moving some of your Twitter data over to Mastodon or other parts of the Fediverse.</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://bridge.birb.space/\">https://bridge.birb.space/</a> is an instance for helping to bridge the move from Twitter to an ActivityPub-based site (like Mastodon).\n\n<p><a href=\"https://twitodon.com/\">https://twitodon.com/</a> is yet another tool to help you find your Twitter friends on Mastodon.</p>\n<h2>One Last Heist</h2>\n<p>Of course if things continue to devolve, but you have some extra time for one last go, consider carefully your exit strategy and why and what you hope to get out of the experience.\u00a0</p>\n<p>Many have left to go to Mastodon. I\u2019ve been collecting some rough notes under the tag <a href=\"https://hypothes.is/users/chrisaldrich?q=tag%3A%22twitter+migration%22\">\u201cTwitter Migration\u201d</a> which may be helpful here. While Mastodon represents a step up in terms of choice, freedom and flexibility over Twitter, I know we can still do better for both user interface as well as a more humane social media experience.</p>\n<p>My personal suggestion for a quick and dirty escape is to go <a href=\"http://indieweb.org/\">IndieWeb</a> and have and use your own domain name and website to become your personal home on the web. If you\u2019ve got the technical chops, our friends at IndieWebCamp have some <a href=\"https://indieweb.org/discuss\">help</a> and <a href=\"https://indieweb.org/How_to_transition_from_Twitter\">pointers waiting</a> for you. If you\u2019re stuck and have some means, <a href=\"https://micro.blog/\">Micro.blog</a> is a great way to go IndieWeb and own all your content while still being able to interact with a large number of other IndieWeb sites as well as Twitter and Mastodon if you choose. Plans there are $5 a month and are an exceptional deal.\u00a0</p>\n<p>Other options are to move to other blogging platforms like Tumblr, which has shown interest in adding IndieWeb building blocks, WordPress.com, and Blogger.\u00a0\u00a0</p>\n<h2>Other options?</h2>\n<p>What export options have I missed? (Keep in mind that we all know there are lots of command line options that dovetail with APIs and require advanced knowledge of programming. We\u2019re specifically looking for quick and dirty options that are immediately usable by the masses, preferably with directions or suggests as to what can be done with the outputs.)\u00a0</p>\n<p>What other options are there for easy migration that still allow people to stay connected with their friends and family? Hopefully it\u2019s obvious that suggestions for moving to other corporate social silos that practice surveillance capitalism where this viscous cycle will happen again within a decade are now moot.\u00a0</p>"
