I sometimes feel bad it’s been over two months and I haven’t traveled farther to more “spectacular” inland wilderness areas. I’ve largely spent a heckuvalotta time just in coastal areas of Oregon and Northern California.
But why not? I sincerely believe this is some of the most beautiful country you’ll find anywhere in the world. And town-hopping—checking out the local food scenes, libraries, stores, galleries, markets, etc.—is one of the most fun things to do ever.
I do have some “big” trips planned soon, such as going to the Colorado Rocky Mountains as well as Glacier National Park. But I’m not in a rush. Remember, the #NomadLifestyle isn’t about where you eventually get to. It’s about the life you are privileged to experience along the way.

While we’re on the subject of major milestones (I recently celebrated having daily-blogged one third of 2025 thus far), it only just occurred to me that I have been living the #NomadLifestyle for longer than living in a house this year. 🤯
Since I moved out at the end of February, and that’s an extra-short month, January + February comes out to less than than March + April. Boom!
If you had told me at any point last year that by mid-spring this year I would have been traveling full-time for longer than I lived in a house, I would have looked at you like you were smokin’ somethin’. But “misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows” and it took—well, it took the descent of America into a fascist dictatorship and the moral implosion of Big Tech and the aftermath of personal/family battles to get me to realize life on the road is actually the least risky maneuver if I wanted to maintain a modicum of sanity in this upside-down world. 😂
(Thus far: no regerts!)

Welcome to the May 2025 edition of IndieWeb Movie Club!
As your host for this month¹, I invite you to (re)watch the film “Tomorrowland” (https://movies.disney.com/tomorrowland), with an optional prequel book reading assignment!
“Before Tomorrowland” (https://books.disney.com/book/before-tomorrowland/) was released about a month before the film, so it’s fine to read before watching.
#Tomorrowland is available in various physical media formats, and via streaming on DisneyPlus². 130 minutes, rated PG.
This month is the 10th anniversary of Tomorrowland’s release.
The world was quite different in 2015.
I had my own impressions of Tomorrowland when I first heard about it and then watched it much later (which I won’t link to yet to avoid spoilers or biasing your opinions). The film made such a strong impression on me that I held a group film viewing and discussion party in 2015!
I’m curious how both first time viewers in 2025 and folks watching a second (or more) time think of Tomorrowland.
If you would like to participate in this month’s IndieWeb Movie Club:
* optional: read the prequel book
* watch the film
* blog a read³ (for the book), watch⁴, review⁵, or even a simple note⁶ post of your impressions, or some or all the above and link to this post
If you want your post(s) to be included in the May 2025 IndieWeb Movie Club roundup, notify me with a Webmention⁷ from your post, or drop a link in the IndieWeb chat discussion channel⁸ and @-mention me.
Since this is an IndieWeb community activity, please both follow the Code of Conduct⁹, and also keep your post within the same rating (PG) as the movie. I may curate the roundup accordingly.
Happy reading, watching, and dreaming!

I probably wouldn’t buy one, because it doesn’t actually fit any of my needs as described (also IMO it’s kind of fugly), but I really hope that they expand their offerings a bit. In particular, I’d love to see a four-door model happen (I don’t drive other people often but when I do they usually have accessibility concerns!), and the addition of power windows would be really nice as well.

I do have my doubts about whether it can actually launch for the anticipated price, but they’re at least getting a lot of hype right now, and I love the concept of a barebones modular vehice where you only add the stuff you actually care about.

If I were to get one I’d definitely want to add a CarPlay display and audio amplifier. Fortunately there are already plenty of things on the market that could be used for this purpose, and I’m sure those will be among the first things to be adapted for the Slate if/when the vehicle comes to market.

I also hope that the hype around this causes other manufacturers to realize that there’s a market for lower-spec EVs. I’d absolutely love to see a low-spec version of a Telo, for example.",
