I am more and more convinced that the only reason folks are not taking advantage of the incredible power and expressivity of vanilla HTML, CSS, JS, and SVG is because they are simply not aware of it, and things like React , Tailwind, and Nextjs are acting as shortcuts that prevent developers from looking at core technologies that have incredible power.

@mehulkar So it's hosted externally here:

My site is registered with the webring, and the forward/back links point to the webring site, which returns a redirect to the next site in the ring.

The #IndieWeb site has a nice little explainer if you want to learn more:

I don’t agree with everything in this post by M.G. Siegler (found via @rcrackley) but I do love the “Mastodon brought a protocol to a product fight” line. Of course, the protocol is plumbing. Like the IndieWeb specs, the protocol is implementing a philosophy, and that matters.

Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that includes:

- Content authoring
- Content consumption
- Content hosting
- Content aggregation

Mastodon is mimicking that in a federated setup, but the holy grail is really when we break it apart.

Eg @ivory is an awesome app for content consumption and authoring.

My own website is a great place for hosting content.

Aggregation is something eg. search indexes like Google is great at.

This is why l’m intrigued about the #IndieWeb

Once this PR is merged to Fedifinder folks should be able to discover my Fediverse address through it, which is @www.jvt.me@www.jvt.me for those who don't want to wait, if you wanna follow what used to get published to Twitter (always via my site first and foremost!)

I've been on Mastodon for a month and no longer have groundbreaking ideas each morning for ways the software should be rewritten to my liking. #IndieWeb

@emilygorcenski that’s what #indieweb syndication is all about!

How We Verified Ourselves on Mastodon — and How You Can Too – The Markup

It gives me warm fuzzies to see an indie web building block like rel="me" getting coverage like this.

Here’s a great post about the #IndieWeb. I particulary like the comparison to #ActivityPub and think it’s relevant to anybody running a static site wondering how to add social features to their site. The IndieWeb stack is way easier for an individual to work on and you can rely on a service like https://brid.gy to bridge to the

There's no path to sustainability for an org like @matrix without institutional funders. If you work for a tech company or org that uses the software, advocate for sponsorship.

We can also donate as individuals, and should if we can afford to.

Interesting:

https://www.microfeed.org

It's a lightweight CMS for blogs, podcasting, photos, documents, links. Hosted on Cloudflare.

"Microfeed allows you to create your own feed of content (text, audio, video, images, etc.) and host it under your own custom domain. This way, you can own your data and your domain name, reducing the risk of being de-platformed and giving you the ability to migrate your data to a different platform if needed."

@atomicpoet the #indieweb folks have a really neat matrix, IRC, gitter, whatever platform bridge, if you check their chat.indieweb.org you can see it at work. People choose from where they want to participate and the bridging does all the magic, it's really neat!

huge thanks to @fluffy for this wonderful blog post on #IndieWeb tech!

The time for an easily self-hosted personal CMS, designed around the Fediverse and IndieWeb is now.

No, I don’t mean hacking it into a legacy CMS like WordPress. It needs to be modern, and completely focused.

(The CMS I use, Known, had the right idea, about 5 years too early).

So close to having an #indiekit instance stood up. It’s not talking to my MongoDB server container, for some reason. #indieweb #POSSE

@mjgardner fully follow that #indieweb is not a protocol. But in the context of being a software engineer looking to build something, at some point a distinction needs to be understood, "I just built this thing. Is it accurate to claim this is working with the #indieweb?"
