Hey #indieweb people, and in particular #eleventy and other static site people, here's a question:

When tagging your own content, do you create and/or follow any standards?

I'm thinking about things like creating taxonomies/vocabularies, formatting your tags, using multiple taxonomies, etc.

I manage taxonomies for some large-ish sites, and I follow some best practices, plan internal governance, etc., but I've always played fast and loose with my own tagging.

Question! Trying to move away from big #email platforms and wanted to know if as anyone has had success with creating a self-hosted #newsletter / mailing list for #EmailMarketing that integrates with #WordPress ?

@hollie I just discovered #IndieWeb! I'm not sure if I can implement stuff like webmentions, but I definitely can do #posse
Wish I knew about Indieweb earlier.

If you guys wanna redirect that energy into making an indieweb capable microsub reader/micropub and activitypub iOS app, those of us here in the #Indieweb will gladly pay. Check indieweb.org/microsub & indieweb.org/micropub for info

@christroll People (ok usually SEO gurus) told me to "get over it" and stop "pining for the past". But I am like you - I want to return to the good old days and refused to accept that this is the way it will be for ever and ever. I also started blogging in the 2000s, and I miss those times so much. The difference was our websites were our social media hubs and we controlled it. Now, it's the opposite. But I think using #IndieWeb principles we can somewhat wriggle out.

@liztai Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I used to jump around from blog to blog thanks to that “narrow your focus” crap - I have dozens of interests, it feels absolutely diminishing to try and whittle yourself to the shape necessary to fit an algorithm.

I got into #IndieWeb last year and it’s been great, I’ve learned so much and I’m finally blogging for myself and the joy of it (though still trying to figure out the technical aspects!).

Seeing as I've thought of some other things I didn't manage to squeeze in last time, here's another #introduction - Lately I've been #writing tiny generic #fantasy #horror adventures in #pocketmod format for #ttrpgs. I plan to put these up on Itch. And maybe I'll put together a #neocities page since I come from a #retroweb era and find the resurrected #indieweb movement very interesting. That dovetails with my ongoing interests in #politics #psychology and #philosophy. Proudest sport moment: I once took a brilliant hat-trick in indoor #cricket, Warne-style, with my legspin bowling - completely bamboozling the batsman. From #australia. Also: #markdown #libreoffice #Obsidian and #pandoc and occasionally #linux

While my posting frequency isn't very high most of the time my lurking frequency is. No matter how busy I am I always scroll through just to see what everyone is talking about. I like the little pond I swim in here at twit.social. I love the fediverse because of the energy it has for things that I am interested in like #indieweb #wordpress #photography and a few other topics. I enjoy the people I've discovered here too. This truly has been the best social network experience for me yet.

@KelsonV There is a sub discussion going on about how there are very many diff platforms are there that make up Fediverse. Which prompts this theorem: in the limit Fediverse is #IndieWeb!

Instead of posting on a personal #IndieWeb site (& POSSE copies), some post primarily to a #fediverse instance and syndicate to Twitter, or vice-versa. How to reply^1 to such posts, e.g.:

Reply to a toot (& POSSE tweet): https://tantek.com/2023/019/t4
* @-@ (Twitter @-name)

This is a variant of case (2) in https://tantek.com/2023/018/t1/elevate-indieweb-above-silo.

We can update the directive and two questions in that post accordingly:

* Elevate #IndieWeb domains above @-@ addresses, and those above any silo identities

1. Do they have an #IndieWeb domain? Then @-domain mention them^2, like you are speaking to them at their domain identity. This will notify them there, or at least reinforce their domain’s importance.

2. Was their post only published on a #fediverse instance (and/or silo), or was it POSSEd to a fediverse instance (and/or silo) and do you plan to federate (and/or POSSE) your reply^3?
Then use their @-@ address or silo @-name, or @-@ (silo @-name) for both, or (@-@, silo @-name) parenthetically following their @-domain if (1). This will notify them on that instance (or silo), and may help thread your POSSE reply.

When posting a reply, you (or your CMS automatically) should explicitly link with u-in-reply-to markup^4 to the post your are replying to, and any of its syndicated copy permalinks on destinations you plan to POSSE your reply (see also multi-reply^5).

This is day 18 of #100DaysOfIndieWeb #100Days, written the day after.

"...a part of me has been resisting blogging. In fact, each time I thought about writing a blog post, I felt tired. Really tired."

When I wrote this post, I didn't understand why I was so turned off and depressed about blogging - something that gave me joy.

On #Mastodon I discovered people who missed good ol personal #blogging like I did.

2023 is the year I embrace #IndieWeb principles.

rolandtanglao.com (@roland@devdilettante.com) thanks for the kind words and yes I was at W3C TPAC in Vancouver, would have been nice to chat!

You’re right, neither ActivityPub, Webmention, nor h-entry for that matter have any explicit length limits.

You can run “an experimental 10,000 character limit AP implementation” on your existing site rolandtanglao.com with a few webdev steps:

Setup Bridgy Fed support on your site:
* https://fed.brid.gy/docs#setup (SSL, /.well-known/ server redirects, homepage h-card)

Add h-entry + h-card markup to your post template:
* https://fed.brid.gy/docs#how-post

Then send Bridgy Fed a Webmention when you publish a post.

Presto, you’re running an AP implementation without a character limit!

Happy to help with any of those steps. Drop by https://chat.indieweb.org/dev!

Today, I have read up to Articles on the Webmention page. If you are a developer there are many ways for you to implement Webmentions. If you are not a developer, you are not left out. There are plugins or website that provide the functionality. On this WordPress site, I use the Webmention plug-in by Matthias Pfefferle and David Shanske.

Day 12 of 100 #100DaysofIndieWeb, #IndieWeb, #ProjectJournal, #WordPress

@swart@mastodon.cloud my #IndieWeb site https://tantek.com/, which runs its own software, doesn’t have any explicit length limit, nor does https://fed.brid.gy/, the service I use to federate to ActivityPub followers such as Mastodon instances.

Both client & server as it were. I haven’t seen it cause any problems with other instances yet.

I am using a Shortcut to post via #Micropub to my website, which automatically syndicates to Mastodon. I wish I read, post, reply, and interact from a single app.
