It has been years since I went on to buy a custom domain for me, after being convinced by the #IndieWeb wiki that it would be an important cornerstone of my web identity.
One upside I just realized is that I never really bothered to hide my beautiful email from spammers ( it's just right there on my home page) and I never really got much spam. Why? Because it's a super underused TLD, so scrapers probably don't look for it.

I have an #accessibility question for the #WebDev community: How can I make an accessible spoiler element? On my site, I use a #CSS class to make my div have a black background, and text color set to black. On hover (or on tap on mobile) the background and text color is unset. It's dawned on me though that this surely isn't doing anything for screen readers. So, how might I go about making this work better? An example page can be see here: https://www.vzqk50.com/projects/pentabit/#explanation

The former is a niche search, focussing on the #indieweb, small web and digital gardens — i.e. non-commercial content, primarily personal and independent websites.
The latter is the personal website of @starbreaker, one of the very best recent discoveries. I love his writings, as it's common with people who are not afraid to tell things by their name.

Hello, #fediverse! - I'm new here and getting my #indieweb situation settled over at ciprianisbsmnt.space, so here's my #introduction:
I live in #Maine and work #remote in digital recruiting/education and have a LOT of special interests (like art, reading, #astrology, #occult, and #hiking!)
Here's a picture of my dog, #Tepe on Burnt Meadow Mountain yesterday. ⛰️ 🐾

After weeks of struggle and failed attempts to bend my static website generator and its templating engine, I’ve given up and I’m now embracing React for my personal website.
I know that the #IndieWeb community favors simplicity and zero-cruft web, but simplicity to me means using the tool I already know.
And I love data viz, so I’m sorry if my corner of the web is going to take a few extra milliseconds to load, but it’s still less than what it would take for a good quality image anyway.
Ryan discusses the differences between the fediverse and the AT Protocol:One core difference between the fediverse and the AT Protocol seems to be that AT decouples many key building blocks – identity, moderation, ranking algorithms, even your own data to some degree – from your server. The fediverse, on the other hand, ties them all to your server and sees that as a desirable feature.I’m probably being a bit presumptuous, but I think there’s actually a difference between a European and American mindset here. (Mastodon is headquartered in Germany while Bluesky is rooted in San Francisco and Austin.)The fediverse prioritizes communities: each community instance has its own rules, culture, and potentially user interface. You find a community that you’re aligned with first and foremost, and your activity is dictated by that. The AT Protocol is much more individualistic. You bring your own identity support, moderation, ranking algorithms, interface, etc. You’re using someone’s space to be able to access the network, but ultimately your choices are yours rather than an outcome of which collaborative community you’ve opted to join.I think both models are good. I like the fediverse’s emphasis on community. I also think by not emphasizing granular community rules early on, Bluesky has the luxury of being able to build community across the whole network more cohesively. I’m glad both exist.",

The fediverse, on the other hand, ties them all to your server and sees that as a desirable feature.

I’m probably being a bit presumptuous, but I think there’s actually a difference between a European and American mindset here. (Mastodon is headquartered in Germany while Bluesky is rooted in San Francisco and Austin.)

The fediverse prioritizes communities: each community instance has its own rules, culture, and potentially user interface. You find a community that you’re aligned with first and foremost, and your activity is dictated by that.

The AT Protocol is much more individualistic. @snarfed.org It's the joys of the #indieweb: you get all the immense fun of building your own little interoperable home on the web, with all the bugs that come along with it!

My blog now shows likes from the fediverse. It's the number of favourites on my toots sharing my blog posts.
The only remaining thing to complete #IndieWeb backfeeding is to show fediverse replies on my blog, I don't think I'll do this as it seems like a privacy issue.
Thanks to the maintainers of brid.gy and #webmention.io for making such great services freely available
