Updated my blog’s homepage. A small "cosmic" running in the background using SVG animateMotion. Still experimenting.
Recently added a "Penpal" page.
Cleaned up a bit of the CSS. Some adjustments to the layout. It feels neater.
Ever since I read that Bluesky has about 1.9 million folks on the waiting list, I’ve been thinking about what happens as more invites roll out. By comparison: Mastodon has over 7 million users, with 1 million on a single server. Plus a bunch more across the non-Mastodon fediverse.
Why I Retired My Webmention Server #oldaily https://www.downes.ca/post/75204 As readers know, I've tinkered with implementing things like WebMentions and Microformats and Indieweb and Brid.gy over the years. Readers will also know my general lack of success, partially (I argue) because of significantly poor documentation, and partially because it's overly cumbersome. I do love the concept of #indieweb and won't let that go, though. But there has to be a better way.
Link: Why I Retired My Webmention Server 🔗 Also worth noting that sending webmentions is a pain because of microformats. Some endpoints parse and display mine, others don’t.

It has been years since I went on to buy a custom domain for me, after being convinced by the #IndieWeb wiki that it would be an important cornerstone of my web identity.
One upside I just realized is that I never really bothered to hide my beautiful email from spammers ( it's just right there on my home page) and I never really got much spam. Why? Because it's a super underused TLD, so scrapers probably don't look for it.
I have an #accessibility question for the #WebDev community: How can I make an accessible spoiler element? On my site, I use a #CSS class to make my div have a black background, and text color set to black. On hover (or on tap on mobile) the background and text color is unset. It's dawned on me though that this surely isn't doing anything for screen readers. So, how might I go about making this work better? An example page can be see here: https://www.vzqk50.com/projects/pentabit/#explanation
@developerjustin I think #indieWeb really missed out on #AMP. It could have brought back #RSS!
Added two new sites to my Links page (aka #Blogroll):
The former is a niche search, focussing on the #indieweb, small web and digital gardens — i.e. non-commercial content, primarily personal and independent websites.
The latter is the personal website of @starbreaker, one of the very best recent discoveries. I love his writings, as it's common with people who are not afraid to tell things by their name.
Hello, #fediverse! - I'm new here and getting my #indieweb situation settled over at ciprianisbsmnt.space, so here's my #introduction:
I live in #Maine and work #remote in digital recruiting/education and have a LOT of special interests (like art, reading, #astrology, #occult, and #hiking!)
Here's a picture of my dog, #Tepe on Burnt Meadow Mountain yesterday. ⛰️ 🐾
Morning everybody and welcome to Sunday. Just drinking coffee and waiting for baseball later today.
Also on:Tried to post from IndiePress app today
It uploaded the text but not the photo (went back and added retroactively).
Unsure if this is my lack of service at the time or just the app -- I was in the boonies for a hike.
Adjusted Post Kinds plugin settings to include icons and kind in title. Need to add a submenu to navigation editor. 🌼

Those are relevant questions and an interesting debate for #Design and #UX folks. Let's contribute to making #Indieweb and #Fediverse accessible and easy for most. https://indieweb.social/@tchambers/110322730606236388
