@mttaggart sums up my experience as well. Not a drop of infosec stuff going on there. The few infosec folks who are on there mostly just shit post or other sorts of clout-chasing. I pop over every once in a while to see if anything has changed though. I still like how my handle is my domain name :-P. Very #indieweb ๐ค

Is there a good alternative to the #omnibear browser extension for #micropub? It seems like omnibear is not available for #firefox anymore: the link to addons.mozilla.org returns a 404.

because of an open letter 50 jailed women sent us today for sharing i want to reflect further on how hard is to get messages trough
they wrote it by hand, then sent it to a contact i assume by letter, the i got an instagram message and got the pdf after and transcribed it. the news will be out soon, but i want to reflect on something else related to this
bc i want people to post their own content online in a way, i think people should be able to tell stories how they want to
i was thinking on what the best app may be overall and...
#tumblr is really ok for posting content but it doesnt allow for #sound uploads :(((( at least, on mobile... but it has rss! and broader size limits than any fediverse instances i know about...
my thing is, why is it so hard to publish multimedia content online?
i know servers cost a lot, and thats why mastodon is so restricted with this.
but why cant we just post any kind of content? like sound, text, pdf archives, video, links and fotos is the basic. most social media allowo only one at a time. its so fristrating. especially trying to do grassroots journalism with activists. its impossible to get them to publish content in any way thats #open, has an rss feed and is readable by other #socials. meaning, everyone is on facebook getting 1 like each. i cant sleep.
like this may seem non poetical but really, we dont solve the technical side then we are stuck forever in empty echo chambers
we need astral rss and federation to be able to even start to compete with major media. its on us to federate everything, no matter the cost. we need to reach people somehow, enter through their phones and get these messages through, and make them forget the tv.
thei're a support group for people who have been jailed and help them get their letters through.
i've syndicated their blog to our own news portal, and its now being re-re-shared on anrachist federation which to me is already a really good situation. an example of how i think rss is really cool

Thinking about creating a Microsub server, I remembered that my new shiny Postgres backend can easily answer if I already left a like on a post or not:
kittybox=# CREATE INDEX likes ON kittybox.mf2_json USING GIN ((mf2['properties']['like-of']));
CREATE INDEX
kittybox=# EXPLAIN SELECT EXISTS (SELECT uid FROM kittybox.mf2_json WHERE mf2['properties']['like-of'] ? 'https://aaronparecki.com/2018/12/25/17/');
QUERY PLAN

Result (cost=11.28..11.29 rows=1 width=1)
InitPlan 1 (returns $0)
-> Bitmap Heap Scan on mf2_json (cost=8.09..43.20 rows=11 width=0)
Recheck Cond: (mf2['properties'::text]['like-of'::text] ? 'https://aaronparecki.com/2018/12/25/17/'::text)

Commune is an extension of Matrix to make rooms web-public and threads-enabled. Layered unobtrusively on top of your existing Synapse server; most of the setup can be left up to us.
Weโd like to eventually be a plug-and-play extension for any Matrix network, including Matrix.org ๐
..so as a first step, we wanna work on interop with the smaller #IndieWeb networks as our earliest adopters.

Hey folks! Hereโs an (under construction) early-look at an IndieWeb notes (micro-blog / short-form content) feature on my site. Working on a writeup (eventually) to walk through how/why it was made. Appreciate any interim feedback though!

@anirvan I'm using my own website, where I post long form blog posts as well as small posts via #micropub. I don't really post much directly, mostly replies to other peoples posts via #webmention.

I'm already sold on the idea of having my own domain and website to own my online presence, and while supporting most of the #indieweb protocols or setting up a full-blown indie reader (e.g. syndicating my social interactions) looks like too much work for the kind of use I'd give it, building a plain old #rss reader, tailored to my preferences suddenly looks like a worthwhile and fun project to me.

Learning about the #indieweb movement has been one of the most interesting byproducts of joining Mastodon earlier this year. I particularly liked this talk transcript by Jamie Tanna as an introduction to the topic:
