What happened to blogging for the hell of it? https://whiona.weblog.lol/2023/10/what-happened-to-blogging-for-the-hell-of-it #Blogging #IndieWeb
Je suis entrain de progressivement modifier mon blog pour y ajouter le support du #indieweb, mais j’avoue que j’ai un peu de mal à saisir comment fonctionnent les #webmentions 😅
Threads starting opt-in for the fediverse is fine. In fact, it’s what we did in Micro.blog too back in 2018, because I wanted to focus on personal domain names and that requires a little more configuration. However, I do hope that Threads expands to enable federation by default for all users.
Anyone implementing #POSSE ? How do you handle 3rd-party interactions?
My read later system has failed me and I lost an article/blog post that I first saw on Mastodon about keeping hardware around longer, sustainable computing and those sorts of topics. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I see that many of you have personal blogs that you post links to. For some of you, the link shows a preview image. For others it shows a gray box with the post title. Mine used to show up with the gray box, but now they just show up as text-only links when I post them here. Is there a WordPress configuration or ActivityPub plugin configuration that I need to change so preview images show up here?
Thx!

@tantek.com also got a shout-out in @cubicgarden and @mike ‘s podcast. The #indieweb has been an early pioneer towards largely the same vision as the #fediverse, starting with individuals itching their own itch.
I'm sure this has hit the Fediverse plenty, but I'm late to the train on Digital Gardens & the Cozy Web definition.
@maggie absolutely crushes it with this summary

Excited to work on releasing my very own digital garden in 2024 🌱

We need to maintain our protocols. Shiny frameworks/tools/stacks will come and go. Thanks to @w3c’s continuous love and care, you could just write some #HTML to build simple, yet interactive things today.
There’s never been a better time to start your personal website.
When was the last time you have checked what you can do with some HTML?
☎️ Checking out the omg.lol world. Fun, useful, clever, quick, simple, customizable. What the web could've been. Worth giving a spin! #indieweb
I talk about Backdrop CMS a lot here. For those who are not familiar with it, here is a short video introduction I made about 2 years ago.
Backdrop CMS is an opensource content management system used to build dynamic websites. It is very similar to Drupal or Wordpress, but better!
Post own site, syndicate elsewhere
There's so much stuff I read online these days that I want to share here or elsewhere, but so much of it comes from people who seem to relish the privacy that comes with being a nobody on the #indieweb. I'm always super worried about, like, violating that sanctity for someone.
The slow rollout of ActivityPub in Threads continues, but it doesn’t appear to be accessible from Micro.blog yet. Hopefully soon. What I wrote in June is holding up well. This is an important step forward for open protocols.
Having the #activitypub plugin for #wordpress post to mastodon is cool but being able to reply to those Mastodon posts and have the replies show up as comments on the original wordpress site is like magic. Feels like a glimpse of the future of what can be. #indieweb
