Ways to improve discovery on the #IndieWeb

We recorded a new YouTube promo for our upcoming Backdrop CMS training.
It's a six hour training that costs $35 and will take place via Zoom on Jan 23 and 24 (next week).
I haven't tried this yet but it seems like a cool idea (I won't have time to try for awhile...).

"If you browse a lot of #smallweb #indieweb blogs and websites, you should add the StreetPass extenstion to your web browser. It finds #fediverse accounts associated with the blogs you read, and allows you to view the accounts and follow them if you want.
How does it work?

Ways to improve discovery on the IndieWeb
The IndieWeb is slowly moving from innovation to rely adopter so it is time to start thinking about content discovery. After all, what’s the point of a game for two people if you are the only one at the table?
One of the ways IndieWeb can become easier to use is to become easier to discover new users and content.
The example of the […]

The return of RSS and POSSE points to a revival of the personal website ecosystem that thrived in the early blog era. Writers, researchers, technologists and more are relaunching their independent homepages, complete with feeds, as both a public notebook and a channel for sharing insights. The personal website is the ultimate sovereign territory online, enabling creators to share content on their own terms.
I feel like Joan Westenberg has come up with the perfect tag line for personal websites (emphasis mine):
By passing high-quality, human-centric content through their own lens of discernment before syndicating it to social networks, these curators create islands of sanity amidst oceans of machine-generated content of questionable provenance.
I've officially been blogging for 1 whole year! 🥳 365 days & 20 blog posts! Lessgo! I published my newest one today, but I'm just enjoying looking at all their cards right now.

I remember when it was all empty (it came with my site's template) and thinking "I'm never gonna use that" Lol. I started thanks to #lain & #bringbackblogging and I keep going thanks to #smallweb & #indieweb
It's hard not to. When there's so much to be inspired from. Here's to another year! 🍾

Anyone have a tool/service to receive SMS messages into a public RSS feed? Part of my eternal quest to liberate important info that gov. agencies see fit to lock up in proprietary or hard-to-access formats. #indieweb #opendata #localnews
New blog post today, Hellraiser.
This is also the official start of a new category on my blog, People. This'll be a collection of short stories about various people I've met in my life that have impacted me in some way.

Let’s talk about making IndieWeb weirder and easier
I’ve been a huge fan of IndieWeb since I stumbled upon it one fateful day. While the specifics of how I found it are lost in the annals of history, my willingness to use it in every project has never abated. Well, the bits I understand at any rate.
This is why I bring up the topic of making IndieWeb ideas into weird and easier-to-use […]

Recently I've been reminded of how much fun the Internet can be. Thanks to all of you creating content, promoting content, and enabling others to create their content. This community is truly amazing.
This whole #indieweb thing is giving me some real warm fuzzy early 2000s XHTML nostalgia vibes
Talking about making IndieWeb easier
I’d like to point you to a blog post that took three days to write. (My average post takes under an hour).
This post in question is called “Let’s talk about making IndieWeb weirder and easier“. It is a reply to some other posts that say we need more IndieWeb tools that are easy to use not just WordPress.
We do. I dive deep into how we might make that happen. I had to stop after I passed 7,100 words. There’s more to say.
For now, just dip into the post and see if anything goes ping for you.
Among this weekend's hobby projects was figuring out some bare-bones support for Webmentions on a Quarto blog. While Quarto comes with support for a few comments methods, adding Webmention support lets Quarto blogs interoperate with the broader indieweb! Fortunately, it's not too complex to add this support yourself.

I wrote a long page about the ZIP archive file format. Check it out: https://orchid.pink/zip/.
Publicar na Web Precisa Ficar Mais Fácil

I spent the last week rebuilding my old portfolio into a more straightforward blog. I've needed a more permanent home for all of the stuff I make, and I'm happy that I finally figured something out.
Also, comments are turned on for the site because I thought it would be fun. I'm sure at some point I'll get a bunch of spam, but I'll deal with that later 😄 https://stublag.com
