@sass I've been using #IndieWeb but I'd like to find this too. I spend too much time fiddling with https://ferrell.rocks and I'd love to see what other people are doing.
Is there a Mastodon hashtag for people who like to tinker with their personal website and just chat about it / ask questions on here? Like, “hey I tweaked my CSS a bit, cool huh?” -kinda stuff.
https://mastodon.social/@davatron5000 underlines an important piece missing from the “build your own website” trend. We need to read, discuss and link each other’s content, in order to promote diversity and growth in the community.
In one word, #AIFAM!

The modern web is constantly, endlessly hoovering up massive amounts of data about you, only some of which is correct, and then feeding you its best guess of what will glue your eyeballs to the screen just a little bit longer, no matter what that is, whether it’s actually good for you or not.
I know I sound like an old man when I go on and on about RSS, but really, it’s sitting right there and is apparently what a lot of people miss.
I'm currently rebuilding my portfolio from scratch, inspired by #indieweb 's ideas and want to make the content controllable by me.
it's been a while since i've gushed about the 32-bit cafe's massive resources list for the personal web, so i'll take the opportunity now!
we often try to find where the needs are for the resources list, and i noticed lots of folks asking across mastodon about where the #web directories and listings went, so i asked our community to collaborate on a list, and we found the answer was a *lot*!
browsing the independent web is getting easier every day. it's so exciting to see how this side of the web continues to grow!
keep an eye on our resources list in case you need more for building your own #website and being an active participant in the personal web :)

"If you stopped cultivating your own website because you really liked #Twitter… did you really care about it that much?
If you care about the #indieweb growing, by all means write, by all means create, by all means curate. But most of all, just read. Or listen, or experience. Spend an afternoon clicking around, like everybody used to.
If 2024 truly is a #tippingpoint into a new world, then it can’t happen in a vacuum."
Update on my web thinking: went for a Zume.net account; good + reputable reviews, much more affordable than my previous host.
Haven’t had time to think about what to actually do with my new site. Wordpress again or something else? Leaning to the latter. Considering Publii + Netlify for a profile/portfolio, after a recent Creativerly post from @philipp.
Then…? Wiki/garden? Dedicate more time to my micro.blog? A photoblog?
