Gatewood</a> writing but his last blog posts about the GitHub kerfuffle over connecting two social media platforms has been spot on with my thinking about the subject.</p>\n<p>The pre-able to <a href=\"https://starrwulfe.xyz/2024/02/on-the-subject-of-connecting-federated-social-media-networks/\">On The Subject Of Connecting Federate Social Media Networks</a> sets up the rest of his post:</p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  The past few days on the Fediverse have served to remind me a few things:<br />1.The internet is as smart and as ignorant (and everything in between) as the macrocosm known as \u201chuman civilization\u201d reflects upon it.<br />2. Sometimes the victims will become the victimizers in any given situation, usually without them being aware of it.<br />3. Upon pointing it out to said type above, instead of working to acknowledge and understand, they will double-down under the guise of righteousness, again unwittingly using the exact playbook that they had been persecuted under at some point in the past.<br />4. As usual, any attempt by a rational third party to diffuse whatever situation breaking out on the internet will lead to a wider conflict/argument/brigade session where everyone winds up digging their heels in and missing entirely the point.<br />5. In part 7 of his series, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich writes about how concentrated wealth and power are undermining US democracy.</p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  The  \u201cOLIGARCHY\u201d comes from the Greek word oligarkhes, meaning \u201cfew to rule or command.\u201d It refers to a government of and by a few exceedingly rich people or families who control the major institutions of society, and therefore have the most power over other people\u2019s lives. - <a href=\"https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-american-oligarchy-why-is-american\">How America\u2019s oligarchy has paved the road to fascism (Why American capitalism is so rotten, Part 7)</a>\n</p></blockquote>\n<p>Writer James Shelly asks a very important question: \"<a href=\"https://jamesshelley.com/blog/writing-on-the-internet.html\">What\u2019s the fun in writing on the internet anymore?</a>\"</p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  You could copy and paste this article into ChatGPT and say, \u201cPlease rewrite and paraphrase this blog post in such a way as to keep its main points and observations, but substantively reconfigure the text to make the original version undetectable.\u201d And then, just like that, you have content for your own blog.         "text": "The Markup found that Instagram is removing content about Israel and Palestine:\n\"Our investigation found that Instagram heavily demoted nongraphic images of war, deleted captions and hid comments without notification, erratically suppressed hashtags, and denied users the option to appeal when the company removed their comments, including ones about Israel and Palestine, as \u201cspam.\u201d\"\n\"[...] As TechCrunch has detailed, the platform\u2019s moderation system seems to disproportionately suppress Palestinian users. The Markup found a few accusations of supporters of Israel feeling suppressed, but did not identify more sweeping evidence through our reporting or testing.\"\nWhen these platforms become large enough to be a de facto public square, as Instagram, Facebook, and X certainly are, their moderation policies disproportionately affect public perception.
