        "html": "<p>Some folks on Micro.blog who also actively use Bluesky have noticed something new we\u2019ve been rolling out over the last couple of days: Micro.blog will now look for replies on Bluesky to your blog posts, bringing them into the Micro.blog timeline. This transforms Micro.blog into a base platform to manage even more of your social interactions.</p>\n<p>How does it work in practice? Here is the basic flow:</p>\n<ol><li>Post to your blog. With <a href=\"https://help.micro.blog/t/bluesky-cross-posting-and-mentions/1702\">Bluesky cross-posting enabled</a>, Micro.blog will automatically copy your post to Bluesky.</li>\n<li>Someone on Bluesky sees your blog post and replies to your post. Their reply is copied to Micro.blog, showing up in the timeline and in the Mentions section just like replies from Micro.blog and Mastodon.</li>\n<li>Now you reply to the Bluesky post <em>directly within Micro.blog</em>. Micro.blog copies your reply back to Bluesky seamlessly.</li>\n</ol><p>Micro.blog is effectively a universal timeline for not just Micro.blog but also ActivityPub, Bluesky, and other services. We want to make the web a little better by encouraging people to post to their own blog while still being connected to friends.         "html": "<p>Readers of my regular blog are probably wondering why a lot of my posts are now gated. Meaning, you need to subscribe to the website (ie give me your email) so that you can access them. I totally understand why some people may think \u201cscrew this\u201d and scroll away, but I have many reasons to do what I\u2019m doing.</p><p><strong>Gated content are for those who are truly invested in my content</strong></p><p>I still share ungated content. You don\u2019t have to subscribe to my blog to read what I write. But the ones behind a \u201cgate\u201d or a subscribe box is for those who want to keep updated with what I write. I create exclusive content for them.</p><p><strong>I don\u2019t want to keep newsletter content on just Substack</strong></p><p>I am currently mirroring my newsletter content on both Substack and my website. I believe in owning my content, but I also believe in tapping on the platform\u2019s networking abilities. Yes, as I\u2019m not a programming whiz, it\u2019s not automated. I have to copy and paste this. I often publish on the blog first before Substack. </p><p><strong>I want to stick it to Google</strong></p><p>These days, I don\u2019t really care about Google. I have more or less have given up on the Google SEO train and am relying solely on the power of networking and recommendations, which feels more fulfilling and wroth it. If I do get SEO juice, great. If I don\u2019t, I no longer car. I just do not want to <a href=\"https://elizabethtai.com/2023/06/20/how-im-healing-from-algorithms/\">dance to the algorithm </a>anymore.</p><p><strong>AI, baby. </strong></p><p>Since Google slyly said that it would <a href=\"https://elizabethtai.com/2023/07/04/google-all-your-content-are-belong-to-us/\">scrape all content on the web to train its AI apps</a>, I decided to give it the middle finger and put most of my valuable content behind a gate and my archive and most personal writings behind a paywall (coming soon to this website once I get off my butt to set it up). Sure, the protection may be illusory, but if Google or other nefarious corporations want to take it, they\u2019re gonna have to work for it.</p><p><strong>I want a sense of privacy </strong></p><p>I\u2019ve grown increasingly protective about my personal life and thoughts. I\u2019m especially conscious of those \u201cchecking me out\u201d for reasons that I\u2019m not comfortable with. So, having my private and more personal thoughts behind a paywall or subscription form helps to ensure that those who bothered to hand me their email and money are not simply trolls. </p><p>Not guaranteed, of course.
