What did you think about Google Ditching Podcasts? Can't say I'm surprised... just like RSS they toss out things they can't control or profit from.
I look at it as an opportunity for us to take back a little more of the internet. To celebrate(?) I think its a good time to share about my project called urPodder https://codeberg.org/meadowhawk/urPodder. New blog post — I have a track coming out April 12! it's on a new album by the electroacoustic trio Apply Triangle with works by 33 composers, and it was recorded remotely during lockdown.
I talk about collecting amateur radio samples to use in the piece, the album project, and there's even a poem.

😜 If imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery, I'm fixing to flatter the hell out of a few bloggers. There are so many cool ideas floating around the #IndieWeb. Trendsetters, that's what y'all are.
And another thing! I've slowly been adding #activitypub support to my blog; what does that mean? Well, in theory:
- You can follow @blog and get new articles to your home TL;
- You can like and boost articles, and those show up on the blog post;
- Comments left on the post here will be visible on the blog.
Caveat: I've only tested against #mastodon so other parts of the #fediverse might exhibit interesting behaviour.
Do try it out, let me know if you run into bugs or issues!

This is incredibly sad. An #independent #publication that worked so hard to build up an audience over 5 years is at risk of going under because of #Google Search's algorithm changes last September drastically deranked them in search results, causing their organic site traffic to plummet and reducing their ad revenue by upwards of 85%.

It's also why the #indieweb is so important. I fear it's too late though.
IMHO tying your #publishing business model to #Google search traffic is not very different than tying your online content to a third-party publishing host platform like #Medium or #SocialNetwork like #Facebook. You’re relying on the network effect from an aggregator whose interests can and do drift from yours.
