Ninety Eight

I'm not normally one to get excited about hashtags, but something crossed my bow this week that hit me in the nostalgia bone. There's a group of people trying to bring back the magic of the early internet...and I'm here for it. Welcome to the #IndieWeb. How it was... Being born at the crossroads between Gen-X and Millennial I spent a lot of my adolescence…

Making version noir

I went to sleep and woke up to several people joining the RPG Design Quest! ♥ It's a small #TTRPG design community site based around groups with forums and even live chat. Plus it's #IndieWeb & #Mastodon connected! Come join and talk games with us!

This is completely lovely: a responsive, noir-inspired personal homepage in the form of a comic. I'm inspired. #Indieweb https://anhvn.com/posts/2024/making-version-noir/?utm_source=werd.io&utm_campaign=mastodon&utm_channel=mastodon

I decided to build a "clap" feature into my #IndieWeb blog, so visitors can show appreciation anonymously and easily, if they want!

I wrote a little about it here https://www.byjp.me/posts/easy-appreciation/; it uses https://val.town (I wish they had a Fediverse account, so I could tag them) and progressive enhancement to be useful and easy even for folks without Javascript browsers ☺️

Please can someone cleverer than me explain how I have fucked up this #CSS?

I have a <blockquote> at the top of the page. But the :before and :after content appears at the bottom of the page.

WTF???

Making incremental website improvements give me warm fuzzies. It’s like each update fills in a piece of my being.

Dreamhost removed support for Passenger a week ago, and I’ve been scrambling to get my site up and running again ever since.

I think I finally have it. I’m relieved, but tentatively because of a back-of-the-mind fear that something might still be broken.

I’m the guest on episode 7 of the Decentered podcast! This was a really fun discussion. We talk about the early days of Micro.blog, of course the fediverse, Mastodon, Bluesky, ActivityPub, the IndieWeb, how Micro.blog encourages blogging, and where things are going.

📝 Parliament and Government should be in the fediverse

Here's my pitch: Think GOV.UK, but social media.

So, say I wanted to move my site away from Wordpress to once again roll my own, is there a good guide for getting started with something more indie? I’m a bit lost now that Netscape Communicator isn’t around. #indieweb

For those with a #blogroll, how do you decide which ones to include or leave off?

To free ourselves of our current predicament, we must simultaneously de-centralize and re-centralize identity.

By de-centralizing the ownership of identity away from platform monopolies and back to individuals, we can re-centralize the agency of personhood.

Once more for clarity:
Decentralize ownership.
Recentralize agency.

The central authority of ones digital identity must be the individual. That's how we regain our digital sovereignty.

Trying to decide on URL structure for a bilingual site. What makes more sense, /post/[sv, en]/slug or /[sv, en]/post/slug?

#devlog: Finally got around to re-adding my "theme switcher toggle" to my site. You can now toggle between a light, dark & classic theme. Trying out some new colors and other CSS changes to improve aesthetics and general contrastiness.

I've also migrated from FontAwesome to Phosphor (https://phosphoricons.com/) for my site-wide iconography and they look great! They even have a "Fediverse" icon :fediverse: which FontAwesome notably didn't.
