@adamghill … 3) JS has become the entryway to a web presence.
WYSIWYG editors had their problem (e.g. presentation over semantics meaning very poor accessibility), but anybody with access to a computer could fire up FrontPage, Dreamweaver, and the like to have at it.
Since you're more exposed, do you think the #IndieWeb has gotten more or less approachable over the years?

This is my third attempt, on a third different domain, at establishing a personal website. I think the reason I usually abandon websites is that I get too bogged down in the technical details, most of it stemming from trying to be as “IndieWeb” as possible. This time, I’m hoping, will be different. Instead of trying to make my website everything to everyone (or rather every format to every reader), I’m going to try and simplify my site as much as possible.
While there’s something to be said for microformats and post types and webmentions and POSSE and the seemingly countless other things an IndieWeb site might have or do, I can’t say I feel like I’ll be missing out on much if I only focus on maintaining an RSS feed and hyperlinking to things the “old fashioned” way sans notification system (though I figure I’ll federate this site considering how easily the ActivityPub plugin makes it, even if interacting on the fediverse isn’t a goal).

@polotek The notion of owning your own stuff and keeping a canonical representation is not a new one, but it was given some formality under the name #IndieWeb - you might find https://indieweb.org/PESOS and https://indieweb.org/POSSE useful ways to think about this. I tend to PESOS to take advantage of what platforms can do, but keep a copy for when they suck or decline or whatever. https://brid.gy is a tool to sort out how to jump from spot to spot. *You* choose what and which to bridge.

Indieweb and static-site generator lovers, how do you host and organizelarge media? I want to share videos and photosets on the web but I don’t love the idea of just hosting them with YouTube, etc. Git isn’t great for large files and GitHub charges to host them so I don’t feel like I can just add them to my 11ty repo.
What solutions are out there? Ideally something that can be cheaply hosted and easy to integrate with 11ty, mirror, and migrate freely.

I have a plan on how to do a digital garden! Since I don't know what I want, I'm just going to spy on my neighbors and see what they're doing.
Imitation being the highest form of compliment and all that :)

I think the IndieWeb should foster conversation and debate. We need to read each other's posts and respond to them rather than writing in a vacuum.
For example, a post: https://henko.net/blog/why-write-unit-tests/ and my response: https://underlap.org/why-write-unit-tests

Ghetto POSSE –
A few weeks ago @adactio helped me to change the way I think about #indieweb’s Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere (POSSE). I thought there was an official way to POSSE and everything else was a kludge. He reminded me that the means of syndication doesn’t matter at all i.e. it’s a mindset not a tool. So… RSS + IFTTT = syndicated website bloops 🎉

And we're back! Seeing as it's springtime now, it feels like the right time to plant a digital garden for myself. So that will be the goal this week. Should be fun!

Ghost has announced they are working on ActivityPub support. This is great news. Although the “It’s time to bring back the open web” headline irks me since people have been asking Ghost to support open posting APIs for years. Micro.blog had ActivityPub in 2018. But now it’s time? 🤪
