        "text": "It\u2019s been a little over a month since I launched\u00a0ShareOpenly, my simple tool that lets you add a \u201cshare to social media\u201d button to your website which is compatible with the fediverse, Bluesky, Threads, and all of today\u2019s crop of social media sites.\n\nYou might recall that I built it in order to help people move away from their \u201cshare to Twitter\u201d buttons that they\u2019ve been hosting for years. Those buttons made sense from 2006-2022 \u2014 but not so much in a world where engagement on Twitter/X is falling, and a new world of social media is emerging.\n\nPeople have been using it, and I\u2019ve had lots of great feedback.\n\nSo, today, I\u2019m pleased to announce releases for two of the biggest requests people have made for the tool.A share iconA share button needs an icon. A simple settings page allows you to change the sharing text, as well as whether it appears on posts and/or page content.Boom! Click the version embedded here to share this very post:</p><p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https://shareopenly.org/share/?url=https://werd.io/2024/some-shareopenly-updates&amp;text=Some+ShareOpenly_updates\"><img style=\"margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;\" src=\"https://werd.io/file/663e29bba672dd19c70159f2\" alt=\"ShareOpenly\" width=\"100\" height=\"113\" /></a></p><h3>A WordPress plugin</h3><p>Lots of people have asked me for an easy way to embed a ShareOpenly link into WordPress.</p><p><a href=\"https://artiss.blog/\">David Artiss</a>, a support lead at Automattic\u2019s excellent <a href=\"https://wpvip.com/\">WordPress VIP</a> service, has written a WordPress plugin <a href=\"https://wordpress.org/plugins/shareopenly/\">that is now available in the official WordPress plugin directory</a>. He writes more about it <a href=\"https://artiss.blog/2024/05/shareopenly-official-wordpress-plugin-now-released/\">in an announcement blog post on his site</a>:</p><blockquote><p>Simply download the plugin, activate it and you\u2019ll find a link added to the bottom of every WordPress post or page. A simple settings page allows you to change the sharing text, as well as whether it appears on posts and/or page content.</p></blockquote><p>Boom! It couldn\u2019t be easier.</p><p>I really hope that the new icon and the WordPress plugin make it easier to include more open sharing to your website. ShareOpenly is suitable for everything from small blogs to large publishers.</p><h3>Manually creating a share link</h3><p>Of course, you don\u2019t <em>need</em> to use the WordPress plugin.
