If you look at the top of my post in your Mastodon client / reader you can see that it\u2019s from @tantek.com \u2014 no need for a username when you use your own domain.\n\nRegarding \u201cwhy the expanded link preview is to one of the (first) hashtags and not to one of the links in the post\u201d, that\u2019s likely a #Mastodon link preview bug with how it treats hashtags.\n\nIf you view your reply in your Mastodon (client), you can see that the first hashtag in my post #webDevelopers is correctly (re)linked to your Mastodon\u2019s tagspace: https://flaki.social/tags/webDevelopers, so Mastodon is at least getting that part right, recognizing it as a hashtag, and linking it correctly for your view.\n\nHowever, Mastodon is still for some reason using the default link for that hashtag on my site (where I am using https://indieweb.social as the tagspace\u00b9) as the link for the link preview.\n\nSince you use Mastodon, perhaps you could file an issue on Mastodon to fix that bug?         "text": "It\u2019s been a little over a month since I launched\u00a0ShareOpenly, my simple tool that lets you add a \u201cshare to social media\u201d button to your website which is compatible with the fediverse, Bluesky, Threads, and all of today\u2019s crop of social media sites.\n\nYou might recall that I built it in order to help people move away from their \u201cshare to Twitter\u201d buttons that they\u2019ve been hosting for years. Those buttons made sense from 2006-2022 \u2014 but not so much in a world where engagement on Twitter/X is falling, and a new world of social media is emerging.\n\nPeople have been using it, and I\u2019ve had lots of great feedback.\n\nSo, today, I\u2019m pleased to announce releases for two of the biggest requests people have made for the tool.A share iconA share button needs an icon. That was clear from the very beginning. It needs to be something distinctive \u2014 this is a different kind of social media share tool \u2014 but also immediately recognizable as a share icon.\n\nI reached out to one of the best designers in the field: Jon Hicks, whose excellent work includes the new Thunderbird logo, Disney\u2019s SpellStruck, Spotify\u2019s icon set, and Truck, an excellent record store in my hometown. I was delighted when he agreed to create a share icon for ShareOpenly.\n\nThis icon works really well at small and large sizes: in sidebars, in footers, and wherever you need to help people share. He writes more about it in an announcement blog post on his site:Simply download the plugin, activate it and you\u2019ll find a link added to the bottom of every WordPress post or page. A simple settings page allows you to change the sharing text, as well as whether it appears on posts and/or page content.Boom! It couldn\u2019t be easier.\n\nI really hope that the new icon and the WordPress plugin make it easier to include more open sharing to your website.
