@evert I’m getting a lot of runway from self-hosting! Even a raspberry pi zero can handle most #indieweb site traffic, is very cheap to run, and you can use Tailscale or Cloudflare to keep your home network’s IP hidden.

It needs some tech-savvy knowledge though, I wish this was easier 😔

Dear #indieweb, I switched my #Website to Github Pages in 2013 from a custom PHP site.

It's been amazing for low-maintenance #blogging, but I realize I really want a dynamic site and a database so I can do more interesting things, such as native #webmention

What's a low-cost (or free), extremely low effort way to run a Node server in a way that will likely only require maintenance once every 2 or 3 years to get me to 2034 ?

"'People are being more nostalgic about the early web', [Andrew Smales] said, 'and part of me feels like maybe in five or 10 years that might be a thing. I think it's probably too early now, but if somebody revived LiveJournal, I could see old web making a comeback.'.

Maybe Smales will be right."

10 years on, it's pretty hard to deny that Smales was bang on. Even then, the #IndieWeb and early fediverse had already been around for a few years.

Not quite sure who you were asking but even though my static site guide is for screen reader users, you can still get a lot out of it https://robertkingett.com/posts/6529/ #IndieWeb #StaticSiteGenerator #WebDev@MxVerda@lgbtqia.space @TheCube

Well my little IndieWeb, one-person hackathon has come to its end. I'm happy with the work I've done. The ability to post status updates directly to the site from my phone, syndicate then to mastodon, write blog posts, all marked up in microformats, receiving web mentions, h card, GitHub activity, and pulling what book I'm currently reading from open library. mycabinetofcuriosities.com #indieweb #dev #webdev #hackathon #11ty #eleventy #netlify #microformats #github #weekend #blog

It's sad that like 90% of #indieweb blogs are #tech -focused. Had the internet developed slightly differently, I bet every #humanities scholar would have a delightfully idiosyncratic personal site.

As I'm teaching myself programming, I'm finding I really like building the kinds of software discussed here. I'm glad to see people talking about this kind of approach.

As a visual designer I shouldn't be saying it but @pluralistic just reminded me how much I loved MySpace and how my young adult obsessive creative personality was constantly changing and shuffling stuff combined with my passion for punk zines and comics in my profile. It was so fun to go on my friends profile and see what they did with theirs and exchange tips.

Added per-user timezone support to @blazehorse. I continue to refine this kit and always use it for new #Django projects 😁

Just learned that Monocle’s preview tool still favors activity+json over mf2+html.

Addressed in https://github.com/janboddez/addon-for-activitypub/commit/60aa2c3c24f1636c0f8b956130303b800d7ffd3b. Check out the result at https://monocle.p3k.io/preview?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjan.boddez.net%2Fauthor%2Fjan.

Just FYI, my “author page” should provide a valid h-feed, and it should roughly reflect my “ActivityPub” profile. One exeption is “non-ActivityPub” replies; if I suspect a blog I’m replying to does not support ActivityPub, I may disable federation (for that reply). (I currently use a category to do so, but I might one day choose to do this automatically.)

@Fury Dead Internet Theory was once a fringe idea, but now it seems that it is being ushered in by #bigtech . This why we need #smallweb and #indieweb

I'm a home cook software developer.

For this month's #IndieWeb Carnival, I explore how people have described non-professional software and people who make them. And I talk about my love for building home-cooked, situated tools for me, my family and my communities.

Thanks @capjamesg for hosting such a fun topic!

Likes Send a Friend a Webmention Day by IndieWeb Events.
July 30 is the International Day of Friendship, but folks in the indie web celebrate by sending their friends a webmention.

With some troubleshooting help from David, you can now send a generic webmention to nicksimson.com, and it will show up (probably after some comment moderation) on […]

I bought a domain... I guess I need to start a blog now 👀

One of the main questions I’m trying to answer right now is: “Can We Distribute effectively do both? Can we be a publishing platform that’s also doing all of its social media from the same place?”

I think this attempt is very much in the spirit of #IndieWeb, where people kind of hack together their own systems by extending existing ones. Given that this can also do some automated POSSE stuff in addition to federation, the reflection feels apt.
