🔖 New bookmark: It’s not about nostalgia, it’s about human connection

> What we are nostalgic for isn’t terrible websites. It’s personal websites. It’s just a bit of diversity in design choices. It’s a hint of a person. Not a personal brand.
I'm all about this. I don't miss the less-than-desirable designs, but those personal connections we made along the way. I'm excited about what we're doing in these small web circles… https://flamedfury.com/bookmarks/its-not-about-nostalgia-its-about-human-connection-rscottjones/

I've published a new blog entry!
https://rm-o.dev/blog/more-and-better-bash-scripts/
I love #shell scripts for all the flexibility they provide. One can accomplish so much with bash by just pipping commands together in the command line that I wonder why one should use other scripting languages, like JavaScript or Python, to do things a bash command can do.
Digging through my old projects and found this collection of "Patent wallpapers" which are just a bunch of illustrations from patents that I thought looked cool and put them on a paper-ish background.
An #introduction 👋
As my bio indicates I'm a bit of a nerd with a passion for the simpler things. Expect technology (infrastructure) posts, security musings and occasional discoveries and PoCs ( #infosec and #privacy are passions of mine) interspersed with some life stuff, whether it's finance, garden or home renovation oriented. Maybe some writing, too.
Recently learned about the #indieweb / #smallweb mindset and am embracing the #humanweb to bring back some fun to this series of tubes.
A website and a poem synchronized to the tides of the coast line where its author lives.
"As the tide rises it covers the beaches and also the lines of this poem, as the tide recedes it reveals more, until at low tide it will reveal the entire poem."
Yesterday, I introduced my ~23 year old coworker to falstad.com, a website I've been playing with off and on since she was a baby.
Y'all, she got SO EXCITED that I thought she might have some kind of emotional breakdown in the office, and she spent like an hour just poking at the circuit simulator applet.
It warms my heart that falstad.com is still around and that some young people see the value in something as old as they are when they grew up in a world of walled gardens, gargantuan corporate platforms, and SEO bullshit.
I wrote a little reply to an unknown blogger. Not sure if he/she will ever get to read it, but I wanted to get it out there :)
I've always had a pen and paper next to my computer for jotting down notes and doing quick drawings. I really like how brainstorming in ink works; no ability to erase, only ever moving forward, a single line thickness, etc. Well, now I don't have to create as much waste because I remade it into a simple web app anyone can use: https://lab.levibeach.com/tools/sketchpad/
