@sarajw @cory I see the #IndieWeb standards as just the next level of HTML, which can be daunting depending on where you are. But especially as a hobbyist, you don't have to do anything except have fun. That's why I find the word 'movement' or 'community' alone a bit difficult, but you should try to use these standards, because I can imagine that it will become something bigger.

A great visual showing the different kinds of indie websites and how they connect to each other, each linked with more details.

My "indieweb" site, as the kids are calling it today even though it is 25 years old, now has search. https://vees.net/ #indieweb
đź“ť: A personal website is a bit like a quilt #Development #Webdev #IndieWeb #Blogging
If there's one thing I'm good at, it's torturing a metaphor. I grew up wrapped in quilts — my mom has made them for years... https://coryd.dev/posts/2024/a-personal-website-is-a-bit-like-a-quilt
@cory @sarajw Yes, my learning curve on this wasn't flat either, but the point is that non-developers are struggling with the spelling of Htm... Htlm ... HTML, but expect functionality where there is none per se in the first place. The #IndieWeb standards and tools built into simple endpoints, which my wife (educator) can also use and which satisfy her, is the way to more personal websites.
I think I may go the Reddit route and block all robots + add auto banning when there’s too many requests (I don’t have hardcore fans). People should send links to friends more often.
Bring back the #SmallWeb, #indieweb, #static #html #PersonalSites by hosting your own stuff!
There are many small/single binary #webserver for static sites but you still have to bother about how you get your files up there.. so I built one on top of .NET's Kestrel that lets you do that, in a single binary; no config, just a few command line params.

There’s a good analysis in Last Week in Fediverse about Twitter X, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Just a small part:
…if the goal is to build ActivityPub into the default protocol for the social web, it is worth paying attention to what is happening right now in the Brazilian ATmosphere.

@adamu don’t worry, Web Directories are still a thing https://flamedfury.com/links/#webdirs
Manuel Moreale blogs about a more intentional, personal web:
I’m talking about liberating yourself from all sorts of algorithmic grouping and filtering and getting back to experiencing and using the web in a much more deliberate and mindful way.
I think it’s okay that “social web” or IndieWeb mean slightly different things to different people. All of those definitions still share in common a goal of openness and standards, not silos.
btw new thing there in my terrarium or something
Oh hey, people are blogging more! Definitely the case for me since I joined the fediverse.
