At #FediForum today, we ran two sessions.

The first session brought together implementors of ActivityPub, AtProto/Bluesky, Nostr and IndieWeb applications to discuss how these protocols relate to each other, and what recommendations they all have for potential adopters who need to decide which to support.

It was a productive, cordial discussion and we will have more to say about it once FediForum publishes the notes from the meeting.

Attending Front End Study Hall #010

If you’re a maven of markup or stylesheet superstar, or a newbie novice with nth-of-type, all are welcome to learn together at Front End Study Hall

The foundation of a flexible, good IndieWeb website is markup (the “M” in HTML!”) that doesn’t drive you batty to debug and CSS that works with it to have it look, sound, and interact how you want, whatever device or format the website is displayed on.

Front End Study Hall is an HTML + CSS focused group meeting to learn from each other about how to make co…

Great meeting today. We talked about full width images in narrow layouts, talked about editors, a bit about web history (Flash, the5k.org, WML). We shared the editors we use and our tips for performance! Thanks to all who participated! Notes: https://indieweb.org/events/2024-09-12-front-end-study-hall #IndieWeb #webdev

An open letter:

Listen. Just because calling venture capitalists "data piggies" is objectively hilarious— ugh. I'm so mad, just... Don't do it, you guys.

Don't 👏 call 👏 venture 👏 capitalists 👏 "data piggies" 👏 🐽

These are cotton business cards from moo.com, which still sells them: I remember debating with myself at the time about the cost (almost $1 per card, considering tax and shipping), but I don't regret it today.

As @brainwane guessed, the back is for jotting down notes or additional context for the card's recipient. The focus on my domain name makes this a low-key #IndieWeb project, a philosophy I was obsessed with in 2019 and still believe in today!

An anthology of websites that explore the poetics of the web: "the raw material of HTML, the systemic visuals of CSS, the endless interactive possibilities of Javascript and the browsers, servers, protocols, and infrastructure that holds it all together."

I’ve been proctoring learn-in’s on Zoom under the aegis of the #IndieWeb org. It’s a great chance to learn and explore the building blocks of the web: HTML and CSS. 10am Pacific Thursday. Come on down! https://events.indieweb.org/2024/09/front-end-study-hall-010-OgBuZxphjMHb #webdev

is it a bad idea to overload the subtraction operator on an MF2 post type to produce a difference between the two posts in the Micropub update format?

An addition of a post and a diff would, of course, patch the post with a diff, for symmetry.

Agora quero ver a questão do blog e site pessoal.

Big tech is painting itself as journalism’s savior. We should tread carefully.

Hop tiens j'en fais un ptit article sur mon site web (mes pouets s'autosuppriment #indieweb) https://louisderrac.com/mastodon-un-cimetiere-delephant%e2%8b%85e%e2%8b%85s/

Working on something to demo at FediForum later this week. Not entirely sure in what form it will actually ship, but could make for a good discussion. Thinking about the Mastodon API and its role in the fediverse.

Apropos of nothing, here is my quick start guide to setting up #11ty. I tried to make it as beginner-friendly as possible but since it is a static site generator, it's still not as pick-up-and-run as something like Blogger, Wordpress, cohost, etc.

But still, if you wanted to get started making a simple blog or website using Markdown files and your own templates and upload somewhere like #Neocities, here ya go:
