A few weeks ago, we launched a WebRing (developed in #OCaml), and it's great fun to see people joining in! Don't hesitate to join us!

I've been making my website better this week, the goal is to have collapsable sections to avoid information overload while keeping content to a single page. Here's a sneak peek at my redesign.

I'm looking for some buttons to put on my page so if you have an 88x31 button and we're mutuals I'd love to link your site, just let me know! I'll be making my own button next week so keep an eye out for that :3

I mention it in the article, but one experiment I've been working on is https://simplepagebuilder.app, which lets you make a simple web page, and shows you how to host it on Glitch or Neocities.

I also opened a feature request to have something like this integrated on Glitch, so if you use it, and like the idea, go give it a vote!

I just posted my first math-y post and tried to write it as accessibly as possible: It's about a wow-experience in math class.

Hope you enjoy it (even if you are not a math-person) :)

⚠️ .io domain¹ likely being phased-out² — seven suggested steps

Good article in The Verge summarizing recent .io related events, see that for more context if this is news to you:
* https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/8/24265441/uk-treaty-end-io-domain-chagos-islands

It looks likely .io (and .io domains) will go away in the next few years (as .cs and .yu did³), so here are my suggested steps to take depending on your usage of .io domains:

1. Avoid buying new .io domains (or making plans with existing ones; sell if you can)
2. If you currently run a .io service (for a company or community), make and publicize a transition plan (like a new domain, redirection, orderly shutdown plan for redirects)
3. If you have a personal site on a .io domain or subdomain, make your own transition plan, and perhaps post about how others should link to your posts
4. If you are using someone else’s .io domain to publish (like #GitHubPages), make a transition plan to publish elsewhere and leave a forwarding note and link behind
5. If you use a .io domain as your Web sign-in login on any sites, switch them to another non-io personal domain
6. Similarly if your site accepts #WebSignIn logins (via #IndieAuth, #RelMeAuth, or even #OpenID), consider discouraging any new sign-ups from .io domains, and warning any existing users with .io domains to switch per # 5
7. If you have posts (or a whole #indieweb site) with links to .io sites or pages (like those in 2-4 above), make a plan for editing those links to point to an alternative or an archival copy (like on the Internet Archive)

And of course, post about your #dotIO plans.

Just had a private SMS dude tell me that the personal web and the #IndieWeb is a space that attracts losers that can't figure out social media or an algorithm and now I want a T shirt that says I'm a loser that can't figure out social media so email me!

Inspired by @bw's "HTML for People"*, I'm putting together a short list of resources for making and keeping the web free, open, and poetic.

https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/resources-for-keeping-the-web-free-open-and-poetic/

🤖 I posted to my general interest blog.

I really like personal homepages and have quite a list of them bookmarked. I'll post one every week unless I fall behind this schedule. 😉 So here's Cool Personal Homepages #CPH Vol. 26: Max Bernstein https://bernsteinbear.com/

PS: Max is on the fediverse: mastodon.social/@tekknolagi

#SmallWeb #indieweb #smolweb #PersonalSites #homepage #blog

With that in mind too, what are some musician-orientated servers that could be added? That section is a little lonely at the moment. #Fediverse #MastoMusic #Music #IndieWeb

I don't know if this is a terrible idea or not, but based on posts by @lislegaard and @meljoann and what seems like a dwindling pool of truly independent outlets for music, I've started (very slowly) putting this together. 🤷‍♀️ https://robertafidora.com/fediup #FediMusic #MusiciansDay #Music #Indie #IndieWeb #Fedi #Fediverse #FediArt #MusicBlogs #Radio #Mastodon

Lengthy introduction. Lots of promotion and weirdness.

Hi all. I've been around the Fedi for a very long time, since about 2017 or so! I am a fully blind, gay, writer. I write romance and not erotica but I've dabbled in erotica.

My romance books feature insecure heroes and unapologetic angst. I write diverse romance, and this includes sexually inexperienced heroes. I write heterosexual and gay/LGBT+ romances including ASexual romances.

My romance books don't have a lot of smut but they do have a lot of romantic tension. I do write sex scenes but it's usually three or less pivotal sex scenes.

I write slow burn romances but I love reading instant love romances more

For the blind readers reading this, I learned Braille as an adult.

I love audiobooks and fiction podcasts. The mainstream web bores me beyond tears so I stick to the IndieWeb and blogs and blogging and the small web and the human focused web.

I blog about all kinds of things. Personal interactions, screen reader tutorials, book highlights by other fantastic romance writers of today. My blogs don't have a central topic so if you read me for my accessibility stuff exclusively, you'll be disappointed.

This isn't my main account. The most places I spend my time are on places such as my website, my mailing list, and virtual events not tied to social media.

I also Penpal with people, the snail mail way! I love exchanging food with people from other countries too!

I write all kinds of things. Short stories, huge letters, audio description scripts, novels and novellas, radio drama scripts and screenplays.

I work in the Accessibility space but honestly can't stand the corporate side of the Accessibility industry.

Now for the non-professional stuff.

In person, I'm the quietest one in the room.

In person, I'm very emotionally expressive and romantically, I'm very very very emotionally needy.

I can read an audiobook for 6 hours straight if I love the book that much.

I'm a cookie monster. I don't like chips very much. I love any kind of candy. I always wear some kind of shirt with a slogan or phrase on it such as, I write books that sizzle! Or, don't ban books. Instead, read them. Or, please hand hug me while giving me Compliments.

I do have a stutter but still do live lit events. I'm a digital nomad, literally. I enjoy being spoiled in all manners of the word.

I love putting chocolate kisses on Pizza. I will sometimes mix fruit drinks to see how they taste, I have stuffed Pokemon and stuffed animals in my bedroom. I'm terrible at sports, and am always helping someone out with something.

I abhor book censorship.

If you can't afford any of my books, just ask me and I'll give it to you for free. No questions asked.

I'm a cat person! Dogs are cute but I'll never own one.

New blog post 📰

I've been curious about LocalSend after reading about it in Mastodon posts. I did try it once but forgot about it.

Recently, I installed it on all my devices and used it daily.

HTML for People

This is excellent! A free web book (it’s a book! it’s a website!) that teaches you how to make a website from scratch:

I feel strongly that anyone should be able to make a website with HTML if they want. This book will teach you how to do just that. It doesn’t require any previous experience making websites or coding. I will cover everything you need to know to get started in an approachable and friendly way.

👏
