This month's IndieWeb Carnival invited us to write about belief. I took artistic freedoms and wrote about believing in myself – and more specifically, my recent struggles with it.
In this personal and honest introspection I write about my lack of self-confidence (especially since the start of pandemic) and my life-long impostor syndrome.

Another thing I did during IndieWebCamp San Diego’s Create Day was add a page with food and drink recommendations. This morning I added an emoji before each one as a quick indicator of the type of food. I like that it adds some color and variety to a page of mostly text.

Slowly porting over all my blog posts from Artstation.
Today I learned how to use the CSS light dark property to make the theme respond to system settings.
Now that the blog is in a more presentable state, here's an article with practical tips for photogrammetry 3D scanning and other methods.

This is a great post by Laurens Hof of the Fediverse Report on the incomplete ActivityPub rollout in Threads, why it might be going so slowly, and whether Meta is committed to the fediverse at all. It seems clear now that it will not be practical to move an account away from Threads. Empty promises.

Pistin kotisivujen ulkoasun uusiksi.

It’s hard to take Meta’s effort with more open APIs like ActivityPub seriously when their own Threads API is so locked down, requiring frequent re-approval. Open APIs shouldn’t make developers jump through hoops, over and over. Enough with the gatekeeping already.

I just did a complete redesign of my site and I'm really happy with it! reillyspitzfaden.com
Some highlights:
- Pixel art theme, w/ fun icons and a pixel art font for headings
- Previously open dropdown menus automatically close when you open a new one

More website update highlights:
- Global CSS file is much smaller, w/ styles for specific pages broken out
- Markup avoids unnecessary `

I just did a complete redesign of my site and I'm really happy with it! reillyspitzfaden.com
Some highlights:
- Pixel art theme, w/ fun icons and a pixel art font for headings
- Previously open dropdown menus automatically close when you open a new one

This is cool! I don’t think it’s correct that Webmention requires a permalink for each post; sending a fragment link as the source URL should work. The verification step should be per-media-type, so receivers could verify that text/plain example differently than a text/html document.

I'm trying something new, as part of the indieweb movement, I'm trying to have my 'social media' originate from my own site. I.e. own my own data.
I'm using fed.brid.gy to have these notes (likes and reposts) bridged to the Fediverse and Bluesky.
I still have my @gerben@todon.nl account and I won't cross-post directly to there (maybe boost my other account's posts), but I'll be experimenting with this new approach.
However, because of the federated nature of this, and the fact that my bridged account is 'not real' (long story), it'd be helpful if you could follow @gerben.dev@gerben.dev from other servers then todon.nl, so it appears in more local timelines.
🥰

My #WordPress website is finally back to normal—and maybe even a little improved! 😅 I spent all night undoing the damage caused by someone who offered to "help" but left my site in chaos. 🚩 Lesson learned: be cautious about who you trust with your work.
The one challenge I still haven’t solved is making my #portfolio filterable by project type. With 13+ projects and growing, this feature is becoming essential! Ironically, this was my original request for help before things went sideways. 😬 The person not only messed up my site but also claimed it wasn’t responsive (I can’t verify that myself as I’m #Blind, but no one else has reported issues) and tried to take over. Now I’m back to square one—but wiser!
I’m using Jetpack's built-in portfolio feature, which unfortunately doesn’t support filtering natively, along with the GeneratePress Premium theme. If anyone has tips or workarounds for creating a filterable portfolio with these tools, I’d love your advice! 🙏
