Cool to see hints that Tumblr is continuing with the WordPress backend transition. TechCrunch:
Automattic confirmed to TechCrunch that when the migration is complete, every Tumblr user will be able to federate their blog via ActivityPub, just as every WordPress.com user can today.
Ben Werdmueller adds:
Given the long tail of ActivityPub and the simultaneous rise of Bluesky, which is connected to the ActivityPub network via Bridgy Fed, the future of the open social web is very bright.
Now I wonder if Automattic pulling folks from WordPress core has actually made more time for Tumblr.

Wrapped up coding on a couple new fediverse settings that will ship in Micro.blog tomorrow. I’ll have a full blog post about it. There wouldn’t be much point in having our own ActivityPub implementation if we didn’t do things a little differently than Mastodon. See also: IndieWeb monoculture.

"text": "Ich war dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal auf der #FOSDEM, haupts\u00e4chlich weil @evan@cosocial.ca und @andypiper@macaw.social (im Dunstkreis der Social Web Foundation) mehrere Fediverse-(Sub-)Events organisiert haben:\n\n\n\nDen Social Web Devroom als Main-Track mit diversen l\u00e4ngeren und k\u00fcrzeren Vortr\u00e4gen rund um das Thema Fediverse. Besonders spannend fand ich die Beitr\u00e4ge der beiden \u201eLong-Former\u201c-Kollegen @matt@writing.exchange und @johnonolan@mastodon.xyz, da die Implementierungen in WriteFreely und Ghost, der von WordPress am n\u00e4chsten kommen.\n\n\n\nDas Social Web BOF (\u201eBirds of a Feather\u201c) bot eine Stunde voller kurzer (10-min\u00fctiger) Vortr\u00e4ge. Ich hatte mir zwar etwas anderes darunter vorgestellt, aber auch diese Pr\u00e4sentationen waren unterhaltsam und interessant.\n\n\n\nBei den Social Web After Hours im HSBXL Hackerspace hatte ich die Gelegenheit, meinen Vortrag \u00fcber WordPress zu halten \u2013 wor\u00fcber ich mich nat\u00fcrlich sehr gefreut habe. Aber ehrlich gesagt, h\u00e4tte es mir auch gereicht, die Zeit mit Gleichgesinnten zu verbringen und ein Bier zu trinken. \ud83d\ude09\nEs war \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigend, so viele Menschen zu treffen, die sich mit dem gleichen Thema besch\u00e4ftigen. @nathanu Folks I know with #eleventy use more lightweight Micropub https://indieweb.org/Micropub clients which--as I understand it--are meant to remove the overhead part of this. Now, your build process must properly respond and take in that post, but when I've seen folks demo their posting process in #IndieWeb Homebrew Website Club Zooms it doesn't seem so brutal. Sorry for the not-totally-informed reply, but could be worth investigating Micropub.

While I love Eleventy, the ergonomics of SSGs are brutal. I'd love to build a "now playing" section on my website where I list a song I'm listening to, or "now burning" for what incense I have going, but the idea of opening my IDE, writing front matter, building, and uploading my site for that seems so silly. I don't use netlify and I can't figure out how to set up CI on my Yunohost Server. There's got to be a simple, local, CMS solution, right? #11ty #eleventy #webdev #indieweb
