The third edition of the "Scrolls" newsletter is live! https://shellsharks.com/scrolls/scroll/2025-02-14
For those new to Scrolls, it's a free weekly newsletter all about the #IndieWeb and the #Fediverse (with some #infosec / #cybersecurity stuff thrown in there for fun).
You can subscribe directly to the newsletter in your #RSS reader of choice using this link https://shellsharks.com/feeds/scroll-feed.xml.
Let me know if you like it!
Special thanks to this week's "contributors" - folks from across the Social Web who shared interesting stuff and now, I've compiled some of that stuff here. (Sorry for the mass-@'ing, but trying to give credit where credit's due!)

https://websitecarbon.com will rate your website and let you know how carbon efficient it is (from their perspective) - my site did pretty well!! 😁

Another fine learning experience for me and others. Learned about a new great font, a fun HTML quiz, and experimented with form-related pseudo classes. Thanks all for joining! https://indieweb.org/events/2025-02-13-front-end-study-hall #IndieWeb #FrontEnd
For obvious reasons I am thinking about a #degoogle of my life. Anyone found any really good resources of websites or guides? Back 20 years I ran my own mail server but I understand it is now almost impossible to get your email delivered if you do that.
I don’t mind separating #email #calendar and #CloudStorage if necessary. Outside U.S. obviously. #indieweb
Apologies for the 3-hours-late release, BUT!!!!! THE BLOG!!!!! IS OUT!!!!!

I love what @shellsharks has done with his homepage 🙌 humbled as ever that he’s taken inspiration from me and Cory’s homepages.

I added webmentions to my website today, and wrote a note about it:
https://ttntm.me/blog/implementing-webmentions/
Much simpler than I thought it'd be, glad I finally did it.
What's new? My home page that's who! And naturally, I've decided to write about it https://shellsharks.com/whats-a-home-page. There I ask, "What's a home page?" and talk a bit about what I've done with my own site's home page and why. Fellow #indieweb folks and website owners, what do you want your site's home page to convey? Would love to hear your stories, or thoughts about my own redesign. Cheers!
This is incredible - take a minute to check this one out. It's a hand-animated interactive website with a ton of animation references, it scrolls in several directions, you can click anywhere and it references with a link. Scroll around-- it's wild.
And thanks to @fyr boosting @starhawk that got me to spot it!

If you had Chris is going to write about Buffy the Vampire Slayer on your bingo card today, you should probably go play the lotto.
I've been playing with a new home page design for my site. See it here https://shellsharks.com/home. My classic/current home page can still be found here of course https://shellsharks.com. I'm still tinkering around with it but wanted to see what (if any) thoughts people had. There's definitely some https://www.coryd.dev and https://flamedfury.com inspiration in there (cc: @cory & @flamed ). I like being able to be more creative with it and love the information density, but there's something about the simplicity of the current design that I'm still drawn to. What do you think?
