Announcement: I have a new logo, website, and email address!

Summary of improvements:
- light and dark mode
- visible skip link
- monochrome isometric icons
- breadcrumb navigation
- long alt text now visible to all users
- indieweb microformats

I see this change as an overall upgrade in functionality, accessibility, and visuals. You can read more on my New Site Design post: futurehorizondesign.net.au/updates.html...

@balint Imagine if a major web search engine service started including page download size including all subresources (from an empty-cache starting point) as an inverse ranking signal.

As in: all else equal, larger pages rank lower.

Forget time to first byte, or time to first render. Let's have time to last byte and time to completed render instead!

@nsmsn recently launched a personal site he rebuilt with #WebOrigami: https://www.nicksimson.com/posts/2025-ye-olde-blogging-questions-challenge

By design Origami’s audience includes creative people that don’t think of themselves as engineers, or primarily as engineers. It’s gratifying that Nick “was able to get this to work the way [his] brain works” and that he finds it fun to use. #indieweb

There! My web site and little corner of the World Wild Web now has a dark mode, too, for those who prefer that. 🌚

It keys off of the visitor's browser preference (using a CSS prefers-color-scheme media query) so should work readily without requiring any special action from anyone.

Also a few other usability and appearance tweaks including easier-to-hit targets on mobile and some font adjustments, and two brand new pages.

I spent last night writing about the things on my site that I am the most proud of https://shellsharks.com/devlog/build-then-smile

The #IndieWeb allows us to express ourselves in many ways, through our writing, through our site aesthetics, etc... over the last 5 years+ I've built a place on the web that I really enjoy hanging out at. So for everyone out there similarly building a digital "home" on the web, remember to look back and smile at what you've accomplished!

For years (we are talking well over a decade here) I've tried to get a smooth workflow for discovery, reading, posting, sharing thoughts online.

And thanks to #RSS, my #remarkable2, Apple Shortcuts, @drafts, #Obsidian, @ia, @eleventy, and @n8n_io I'm finally getting there! Still some small annoyances to fix, but I'm getting there!

I'm going to create a section on my website for links to really cool people on the interwebz who have independent websites (IndieWeb, etc). Sort of like a blogroll but for indie websites.
