"Plenty of people online these days are complaining about the bubble effect and the algorithm."

To Remember or Forget
"Some stuff really ought to be ephemeral, and other stuff ought to be preserved. The act of distinguishing between the two is what curation is all about. It requires reflection, intention, and vulnerability. "

Notes from this event have been formatted on the #IndieWeb wiki - some gems in there - thanks to all who participated! https://indieweb.org/events/2025-02-25-front-end-study-hall

Thanks @Meyerweb & @fractalkitty in particular for helping me understand the uses of both #MathML and #LaTex and #MathJax at yesterday's #IndieWeb Front End Study Hall. I updated https://lab.artlung.com/mathml/ a bit.

Why Personal Websites Matter More Than Ever
"Look what we’re left with—no walled gardens. Just guard towers and searchlights and snarling dogs keeping us at bay."

"Personal websites matter - now, more than ever - because we can see, clearly, with our own eyes, what happens when a handful of companies control and own the medium and the message. "

"I want a world where musicians don't have to tailor their music to the 5-second attention span of a million swiping doomscrollers and can instead rely on the support of an audience who care enough not to sleepwalk their way through the Internet."

over the weekend I was replacing some bits on my bike and thinking I need to find a way to record all the details and track the milage.
Realised this is a perfect candidate for personal domains

Your periodic reminder that you should consider starting a blog if you have something you want to say.

Or, if you don't know what you want to say yet, start following some blogs. Take a stroll in the less charted corners of the web - start on one blog and if they're not for you, see if they have a blogroll and follow the strands of the world wide web. Have an adventure out there - who knows what you'll find.

And leave the "walled gardens" behind. See here for why:

The web used to be wild. It still is, but it needs more wild and less commercial algorithm based content and ai slop. Plant something - join the world wild web and watch it continue to grow.

Working on some ActivityPub tweaks today, finally added some code to handle Question objects / polls. It was confusing to not have the context for these posts from Mastodon before. They look like this in the Micro.blog timeline now:

Personally I don’t use polls. I’ll revisit doing more later.
