Introduction

Doing an #introduction as I'm new to Friendica, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to engage with the fediverse, and friendica.world. I'm always happy to meet people with similar interests, so feel free to boost / share!

I'm a human who loves weird art, all sorts of music (from Hindustani to Death Metal), tech, sunny days, green hills, incense, tea, spirits, soft couches, cats, and books. I'm a prolific vegan cook, and I design, code, write, play games, and produce, write, and play music for fun.

Recently, there was this insightful interview in our local newspaper that I found really interesting and seemed almost philosophical to me. So I decided to curate and share some passages.

I'm a bit obsessed with working on my website currently. And inspired by all the fantastic personal websites I'm finding. So here's another update to my website:
I added three pages: a sitemap, a page where I want to collect all the single pages I want to make, and one such single page.
I also put the change log on my
homepage into a scrollable box. I'm not super happy with how it looks, but I do like a scrollable box thing.
I am feeling a bigger re-design coming... I have ideas, but don't know when I'll actually sit down to try it out. I have some ideas of single pages first.

Reminder for folks in Austin, Fediverse House is this weekend, Sunday and Monday. I’ll be there. In a happy coincidence, Sunday is also the anniversary of the first post to my blog. 23 years.

@paulca I wonder if there's prior art from #indieweb land that could be used and/or expanded upon?

#microformats and #ActivityStreams (which begat #ActivityPub already has a big vocabulary of things (nouns and verbs)

Payments… no real idea/suggestion
The allure of a a Just Works™ universal payments system on the web has been there since the start. That territory seems more fragmented than ever.

@matthiasott @sergi Kagi.com seems use the amount of tracking scripts as a ranking factor. More scripts = lower quality content. That way you also find those little blogs from people that write really good content. Which is probably right up your #indieweb alley 😉

I've complettely revamped my site again! It's now #BuiltWithEleventy and has a proper blog with a tagging system and everything!

@krusynth @matthiasott I don’t think that is correct.
According to the MDN "flow content" is allowed as children of <li> and <article> is in the list of flow content.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/li

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Content_categories#flow_content

The HTML 5 spec has an example with article elements for comments and #webmentions are something like comments, right?

https://www.w3.org/TR/2013/CR-html5-20130806/sections.html#the-article-element

Also: what would deem the best semantic #HTML structure for displaying #Webmentions? Are they an ordered list? A few <p>s? What about <article>s, maybe inside a <section>? Or just a lazy bunch of <div>s (🫠)? #indieweb

What are the best #Webmention implementations you’ve seen in the wild? (Asking for a friend ofc. 😁)

This is a great post, and ranges much wider than the tiny bit I want to pick out:

"nobody knows how Google ranks pages any more."

Have you been watching the junk that Google returns for narrow, carefully-constructed search queries these days?

But read the post for much more than that observation.

I have my reservations about whether or not blogs (specifically my blog) should federate content via ActivityPub. Isn’t RSS enough?

https://cdevroe.com/2025/03/04/need-activitypub/

The #openweb offers a fundamentally different model.
#mastodon #PixelFed - the entire #Fediverse - prove one thing: that social platforms can function without centralized control and that technology can connect people without surveilling their every move and controlling their information diet.
When centralized platforms face criticism, they evade. When they face competition, they copy. When they face regulation, they lobby - or just buy democracies.
