"Why The Indieweb?
This is the story of the birth of the web, its loss of innocence, its decline, and what we can do to make it a bit less gross. Or if you prefer, this is the video in which I say the expression “barbecue sets” far too many times.

Webbed Briefs

WEBBED BRIEFS are brief videos about the web, its technologies, and how to make the most of them. They’re packed with information, fun times(TM), and actual goats."

Joining a webring feels like having neighbors

someday I’ll introduce myself to my webring neighbors 😄

I've seen a few different people recently re-start personal blogs and it made me want to tinker with static site tools again... I've also been wondering how many little painting projects I've started and just left half-done here on Mastodon (11. The answer is currently _11_).

So... still very much a WIP (another, add it to the count), but technically this works, syncing up Mastodon toots and stats as purely static content:

I love the fact that #webmentions exist but like all communication things it requires an external active server.

Also, setting it up on a #website adds some more complexity than a "site" wants to have. It's isn't a necessity but isn't unnecessary either. I love the concept of #blogs mentioning each other, connected yet very personal and unique.

But, It's very niche and I haven't seen a webmention that is purely blog to blog, it's almost always social media to blog.

I am not much of a blogger but, I love the concept of a group of friends discussing over a topic in their blog circle and the blogs are connected in a way that it webs everyone but in their own unique style and controlled by themselves.

I just want the internet to be interactive yet personal and independent without any centralization. *If I write more I feel like I'll repeat myself again.*

For someone like me who just uses GitHub to host my #staticsite without having to rent a server, it's again a bit too complicated to support webmentions. I wish webmentions was easier and widely adopted, that's all.

Just rebuilt my personal site with 11ty — kept it minimal and content-focused.
Not chasing trends, just wanted a space that feels like mine.

Still a work in progress, but would love feedback

There's also this post from yesterday, which I couldn't share because my mastodon instance was down:

Fresh new instance, fresh new #introduction time.

I'm Erin, yet another autistic transgender anarchist from so-called Portland, Oregon. I used to have fancy tech jobs with titles like "Lead Full-Stack Software Engineer" until I burnt out, got laid off, and discovered that the tech industry was done with me. Nowadays I survive on a very part-time gig as a general technologist and some freelance tech work when I can find it. My part-time gig is unionized through the IWW, of which I am a proud member. I've been on fedi under various names and handles since GNU Social was the cool new thing.

My special interests include Cybersecurity, Casio watches, Dungeons & Dragons, Final Fantasy XIV, the Indieweb, Linux, old ThinkPads, XMPP, Yuri Anime and Manga, and stuffed sharks.

I've added an XSLT stylesheet to my articles RSS feed for a better user experience, especially for those who are not familiar with feeds: https://balintmagyar.com/articles.xml

Hat tip to @reillypascal for raising my awareness to this capability, and to Nathan Clark for a nice intro article https://natclark.com/tutorials/xslt-style-rss-feed/

That was fun! I want to continue tweaking it to make it more consistent with other parts of my site. Eg. friendlier dates, and displaying tags and reading time.

@grunfink @uhuru There is a #webmention-plugin for WordPress https://wordpress.org/plugins/webmention/ made by @pfefferle (known for the ActivtyPub-plugin)

That's it, I've finished the complete rebuild of my personal site, coded with my own little hands, the old-fashioned way.
For the moment, it's still a lot of redirections, but the next step will be a nice gallery and maybe a blog, so that social networks fall back into their proper place of redirection to my site, and not the opposite. I'm also planning to make other designs, even if I like its early 2000s look.

I love independent proposals, so next release of #snac will include support for Webmention. It's a protocol built on top of web standards and part of the IndieWeb. It helps web page maintainers and bloggers to know when one of their URLs are mentioned in other platforms by providing a webhook to receive notifications. In snac's case, all links written in a Fediverse post (directly or using the Markdown format) will be tested for Webmention endpoints and notified if they exist.

I don't know how many web sites out there implement Webmention (I guess very few), but given that it has been very simple to implement, here it is.

Long live the non-big-tech Internet.
