My entry for this month's IndieWeb Carnival (hosted by @nsmsn)

I've been mostly making music tools rather than writing music. Today I'm talking about getting out of this rut with a “take two” on my current composition:

❤️ Monday Memes #15 ❤️

We might not get all the targeting and tracking that comes with the corporate web, but that’s also why we’re not on the corporate web. Our website engagement is a lot more real, a lot more meaningful, and a lot more human. It’s quality over quantity. ♥

Happy Monday!

Just added a full article to the VEX.blue BETA site!

I wrote it during the 2.2 redesign; when I rebuilt the coding the site from scratch (half a year ago), figuring out design, RSS, and even future plans for tutorials like "How to join the Fediverse?"

Oh and it now supports Fediverse comments! (Just reply to this post)

Check it out here → https://new.vex.blue/articles/2024/09/02/welcome-to-v2_2

Would love your feedback 🌀

Today, I added a dream log #OpenTopic page to openmentions.com - you can reply to it, #WebMention it, ping it, or whatever to share a post, #blog, page, or other web thing with #DreamLogs you'd like to share.

Good morning 🌞

We received reports overnight which suggest that indieweb.social hit a snag and was slow to load images.

This seems to be fixed now, but please let us know if you're still seeing issues!

And here it is. I finally have a blogroll on my personal website. It took only a decade to add it :)

With all the #smallweb / #indieweb / #POSSE /... talk, how do you go about regaining "control" of all your stuff? I have been posting projects, images, ... all over the place.

And I feel like it would make sense to get that "centralized" on my own page(s).

Partially grabbing archives (like my old twitter acc) and finding reasonable ways to keep them without being dependent on X infrastructure (say e.g. for shortlinks).

But also things still in more active use, like projects on hackaday.io etc. I guess that would be technically the same as archiving, but maybe you can still add links to your new "archive"?

The "A List Apart" webzine is looking for submissions from designers, developers, writers, and others interested in sharing their thoughts about the web.

"But you don’t need to wait for an idea that will redefine web design. Just aim to bring readers a fresh perspective on a topic that’s keeping you up at night."

I’ve always wanted to be a writer—well-known, financially stable, creatively fulfilled. But laziness, anxiety, and distraction often hold me back. Over the past year, AI has become a quiet companion, helping me write better, think clearer, and reflect deeper. Still, the real work is showing up. This is my journey with writing, purpose, and technology. Read more: https://www.inkbalance.org/2025/06/my-sincere-desire-to-be-writer.html

The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get the one-click solution working from my phone, since I read a lot on my phone.

My chrome extension is local (unpublished, unpacked in dev mode chromium). Is there a way to do that on an Android phone, or do I have to publish the chrome extension?

The extension itself is quite trivial: post to a URL with the current page URL as a parameter and a github bearer token as a secret: https://github.com/j2kun/extension-trigger-gh-workflow/blob/main/execute.js

Looking for any advice from #indieweb enthusiasts for how to do this!

I do my blogroll a bit differently. Instead of linking to blogs, it has the ten most recent articles I personally enjoyed reading, with the most recent 3 linked from the homepage. Then I wrote a simple chrome extension to add the current webpage I'm reading to the blogroll.

This solves a few problems:

1. Linking to articles rather than the homepage makes it easier to find the good stuff on the blog.
2. Blogs go stale, and so by having the most recent 10 things I read it is more likely to point to an active writer.
3. A one-click solution makes me much more likely to add to it.
4. Most blogrolls are huge and I have no idea where to start looking. Having only ten things makes it approachable.

Most people outside of Micro.blog don’t pay attention to our news blog, so quoting this here too:

Fixed an issue where mentions to Mastodon users weren’t actually sent to remote servers if Micro.blog hadn’t yet cached the ActivityPub info for that user.

If you’re on Bluesky, we also automatically mirror our bug fixes and features to the micro.blog profile over there.
