Inzwischen gibt es uns seit 10 Jahren. Um das zu feiern, gibt es von mir einen halb-sentimentalen Rückblick und eine neue Zufallstabelle, die vermutlich niemals in einer freien Runde zum Einsatz kommen wird:

#indieweb people with multilingual sites, how do you structure everything? do you write each post twice/thrice? is it worth it?

Mastodon on Toot TUI

There is nothing like a TUI (text user interface) to really help me focus. So when I stumbled on Toot TUI, I had to give it a try. Now, it is probably one of my favorite terminal applications.

If you have your own GitHub url as a primary link in your Mastodon/Fediverse profile you can "Log In" with your profile url and use #IndieAuth to RSVP for this event. And of course you can use your own domain with that. #IndieWeb RSVP-ing is optional, as stated. We'll be around, webmastering.

So far today my little website has had visitors from Greece, Vietnam, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Canada.

#indieweb for the win!

I Can't Journal

Every year, around this time, I try to start journaling. And every year, about this time, I fail. But, hey, at least I am consistent.

Today in the #powRSS feed:

Filmmaker and activist Elena Rossini @_elena shares all versions of the Fedi promo video that is helping introduce the fediverse to a wider audience.

A reminder that the beauty and strength of the #Indieweb and the #fediverse comes from its community.

@shellsharks is back with more Scrolls, and so is Scraps, my pauper imitation #roundup of some of the interesting things I've seen on the #indieweb and #fediverse

We're heavy on the fedi...verse this week, with congratulations to @xandra for hitting v1 on Riverton, a bunch of fediverse merch curated by @box464, @readbeanicecream shares an *amazing* quote, and a whole bunch more.

The End Of My Small Web Marketing Campaign

Hey everyone! I have a bit of bittersweet news for today. I’ve decided to end my Small Web marketing campaign. Originally, I was going to just transition it into being a marketing campaign for the Sovereign Web, but the more I thought about it, the more I came to terms with the fact that I really just don’t have the energy to do it anymore. It’s a lot of work posting every single day, and I’ve more or less been doing this for about eight months, which is a pretty long time to have kept it up.

I originally started this campaign to help more people on mainstream social media discover the Small Web movement as a solid alternative to the corporate web. But something really important I’ve realized through all of this is that while a lot of folks generally express discontent with the direction mainstream social media has gone over the years, most people are too set in their ways, have accepted the status quo, or can’t be bothered to explore alternatives and invest energy in trying something new. And that’s fine. Everyone is at different stages. Not everyone has reached their limit yet, and some might never.

But in realizing this, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a fruitless endeavor to invest so much time and energy into promoting an alternative path to a demographic that largely isn’t interested or doesn’t feel it’s worth the effort. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.

With transitioning away from the Small Web movement and stepping into a new ethos of personal web building (the Sovereign Web movement), now just felt like a good time to lay this old chapter to rest. For the time being, I’ve put my social media marketing posts into drafts, as I’m undecided about what I want to do with them. I may archive them somewhere on here if there’s interest in keeping them available.

Going forward, I think I want to focus more on creating really high-quality posts to help newcomers who want to explore personal website building for the first time, as well as folks who are already involved in making or maintaining personal sites. This will still be a resource hub. That’s not changing. But from now on, I’ll be creating posts at my own pace. No more hustling to push out daily content. I just don’t have the energy for it anymore, and I don’t want that pressure weighing on me when it doesn’t feel like it’s really going anywhere.

Anyways, that’s just where I’m at right now, but I wanted to let everyone know because I know there’s a lot of people who follow my social feed for the daily content. I hope everyone understands and continues to follow along even though posts won’t be quite as frequent as they were. šŸ™‚

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend and happy early Canada Day and July 4th to my American friends! ♄

Put together a pretty cool live @ListenBrainz widget on my website! Auto-updates every 10 seconds, and shows as much metadata as I can cram into the widget space. All that metadata is the bonus of ListenBrainz being so closely tied to MusicBrainz

(and don't worry, I have some pretty aggressive caching so I won't hammer the ListenBrainz or MusicBrainz APIs)

Some of us over on the #Indieweb are doing blog post title exchanges and this one came to me from Zachary Kai:

"Bilingualism: Has the way I exist changed as a result?"

I get that - but my ā€œconfusionā€ is that we can already do that on existing protocols; arguably the internet via HTTP was like that longer than it’s been absolutely garbage. My ā€œwhyā€ question is ā€œwhy a new protocol with different tools, as opposed to something like #IndieWebā€?

I’m not against it; I’m trying to understand.
