Nick Heer blogging about the Ghost 6.0 release:

If Ghost added MarsEdit support, I would be awful tempted to switch from WordPress.

Probably not going to happen. People have asked for it. Ghost has oddly never cared about open APIs until recently, with ActivityPub, and even that was years after everyone else added support for it.

If you want the most support for lots of APIs and publishing from different apps, there are only two suitable platforms: WordPress and Micro.blog.

any funky font freaks round here? I need one for my blog. I stole the current one from craftinginterpreters.com, and it's way too clean. I want it to be a bit wonky, wobbly, with organic shapes. but still readable. pretty please? #indieweb #fonts

WebMention is only biding its time

Otto Rask makes the case that WebMention is not dying but is instead waiting to bloom. WebMention‘s time has not yet come. Of course, I pretty much agree and have said so before.

I’d go so far as to say WebMention is brill. What is needed are more tools and toys that a friendly towards your average user. My little collection of patterns for WordPress may or may not be the toy needed. If we keep building, eventually the age of WebMention will arrive.

Before that can happen, we current WebMention users need to start finding each other and start enjoying mentioned-powered conversations. Here’s an incomplete list.

I've partnered with Sean Crisden to provide his backstage pass folks with audio recordings of my blog posts! This is how he's able to financially narrate these posts, so pick a slot, and subscribe! Well. It only took 3 posts into #blaugust before things got a little morbid.

Anyone here into both #indieweb and #indiedev ?

I could use some company/accountability in making sure some of my games that are only hosted on itch.io are also playable from my personal site.

And still need to create separate category feeds for TTRPGs and gamedev and personal things. And blog. And aaagh.

If I had a more conspiracist mind, I'd say that the timing of #Google's proposal to remove #XSLT support from #Chrome #Chromium #Blink just as we are seeing a resurgence of interest in #RSS and the #indieWeb away from the centralized #GAFAM silos is quite suspicious.

Usually my posts are pretty off the cuff. It actually feels kind of weird having things pre written like this.

"May 2025 IndieWeb Carnival Roundup"

About Small Web communities:

"I think of them as places where the feeling of knowing someone is ubiquitous. Maybe I’m romanticizing, but I imagine that interacting in a small web community feels like going for a walk through the neighborhood where you lived for many years: you meet people you haven’t seen for quite a while, see others that you never talked to but know for a long time, and meet some new people who just moved there or are just visiting. There is a feeling of being home, and this is what I also want for my online experience."

"So where do we go now? How do we find people with similar interests in 2025. How do we rebuild small web communities and find each other? Where do the weird, socially awkward teens with highly niche interests go? They probably need this more than me. We need to build something for ourselves, it has started. Blogging is back (it never went away for some), webrings too."
