It's late and I'm too tired to think of a comment about this. Uh, #email is cool, I guess.

đ What Jack Batyâs Blogging Anniversary Post Reminded Me Of
I was reading Jack Batyâs blog the other day via RSS and saw his post, â25 years of bloggingâ. That was three years before I started on Blogger, in the pre-Google days. I had a website before bloggin

Here's my entry for this month's IndieWeb carnival, hosted by @immarisabel!
I was excited for this prompt since it gives me the opportunity to talk about âcolorâ as it relates to musical timbre, and how I like to emphasize those aspects when I write music:

I've been prevaricating recently with my #indieWeb workflow. Here I talk through my current setup, options that I have been considering, the latest update to @mauricerenck indieConnector plugin, and why I will probably end up changing (almost) nothing at all.

Aha! It was Gowalla! Thanks @tantek.com #IndieWeb
I'm still trying to remember what site it was I had an account on where I did checkins but was NOT dodgeball/swarm. https://artlung.com/elsewhere/ - it may take a while before I feel like this page is complete.
In an #IndieWeb sense, my website has outlasted a whole bunch of these.
Number Go Up by Zeke Faux blends investigative journalism, social commentary, and true crime to recount some of the wildest crypto frauds â a ride I partly lived through in real time.
Remember webrings?
I made Webring Studio to bring them back â and itâs live now. đ

Hereâs the twist â my lifeâs shifting gears, and this indie web project is looking for a new owner.
Can I ask a small favour from anyone with a few moments to go look at a web page?
The #WebMention on this #WritingPrompts page came with pictures. I added some CSS to tidy up the images in the layout. Does it still look good on whatever you used to view it?

Iâm coming around to build what you need
I recently encountered a good counterpoint to my rejection of build what you need. Maybe it is okay after all.
Tuesday! Front End Study Hall! Join us for an informal space where we examine web pages and their styles, try to fix bugs and show what can be done and how to make sense of CSS and HTML+! 6pm BST/10am PDT/1pm EDT https://events.indieweb.org/2025/08/front-end-study-hall-034-UzkXwuTEzyuG #IndieWeb #WebDev
don't use AI at all? put it on ya website

Okay, âmake what you needâ might be good for the IndieWebâs future after all
I recently made the case that Make what you need might be all wrong for the IndieWebâs future and then theAdhocracy and made some strong counterpoints. Iâd like to explore those counterpoints.
Just solve the problem
Make what you need can be stressed as make what you need. Just solve the problem or requirement you have and nothing more.
donât try to make an all-singing, all-dancing tool that aims to do everything for everyone: solve the problem you have.
Thatâs totally fair. A good thing that does the one task is better than an okay thing that does what you need and a bunch of stuff you could live without.
A little Darwinism in the code space is a good thing
Survival of the best solutions in a space is almost certainly good for all of us. Indeed, as theAdhocracy points out, even more competition and services would be a good thing.
The community is, after all, working towards that.
I honestly had not considered this point at all. Sure, we might get a bunch of square wheels, but we will also get rounder wheels and even some good suspension and tires.
I still have doubts about WebMention spam
Iâve never seen it, but have encountered people claiming that WebMention spam was the cause for them giving up on the idea. I still suspect this was due to a weak implementation that might not have taken the âconfirm linkâ step. I canât know that for sure, but it is still my guess.
Conclusion
The comments from theAdhocracy contained a lot of truth and were a kind and gentle correction to my not-fully-informed opinion.
Perhaps âMake what you needâ is not such a bad idea after all.
What I do know for certain is that I was on the receiving end of a great rebuttal. Something that hurts the ego a little but causes growth, increased understanding, and exposure to new ideas. I have benefited from the new ideas I encountered today.
đ Bookmarked Seeing A Different Web (https://mtwb.blog/posts/2025/tech/seeing-a-different-web/)
Mattâs post talks about how the return to the "small web" or "IndieWeb" has allowed new surfers to recapture the original sense of community and direct interaction of the early days of the web, before social media and the five websites.
