Part three-months-later reply to @thelinuxcast https://mtwb.blog/posts/2025/keeping-a-calendar-is-a-waste-of-time/ ๐ and part my take on the subject and maybe it'll help or at least inspire someone somewhere somehow somewhen. ๐

I've owned the domain jessamyn.com since 1996 (it was a gift from my dad). The earliest copies of it on the Wayback Machine date to 1998. I change up the home page every few years just in case someone stops by. This new one uses a template from W3 Schools and I'm pretty happy with it.
Now if I could just get my .htaccess file to work (it's on a friend's server, so this is "ask that friend why it stopped working" not "learn about .htaccess") #indieweb
Learned that you can add a tiny bit of code to your RSS page to make the page look pretty when people click on it instead of just a bunch of scary lines of XML. You can even put whatever you want at the top (like an explainer of what RSS is).

New post up on my WIP website about my feelings towards VR gaming in 2025. spoiler alert, I'm not as excited as when I was writing about it two years ago. Give it a read if you'd like, it's short!

I've been having SUCH a good time with #indieweb web dev. I figured out a way to custmize my Bear 404 page.
This is another "actual developers could have figured out way faster" but I'm just an enthusiast Here's a #blaugust post about it

Individualism vs Commons: Why the Fediverse matters, and the Indieweb is legacy
The continuing, talking to legacy alt media people, sparks off clarification. The current conversation comes from the #indieweb, rooted in individualism, the digital mirror of the lone artisan, the self-sufficient homesteader, the coder as sovereign subject. This is not a critique in itself โ individualism is a core driver of creativity and experimentation. But taken as the centre of gravity, it is a politics that naturally aligns with capitalism. Each person builds their site, their stack, [โฆ]

๐ธ๏ธ I made a webring: รษโฎโดลฤษ!
I created a new #slashpage for my website that I like to call /pings, containing a list of blog replies and mentions to my own posts. Basically, a sort of hand-crafted type of #Webmentions, or my version of the #CommunityEchoes @jedda and @immarisabel use, but implemented in my #Jekyll layout, using yaml metadata and #Liquid templating. This is day 22 and post 24 of #Blaugust2025

Day 22. Blaugust is in the home stretch now.
I think I'm learning lessons on how to find readers for me blog :)
Edit: I think I should write about it sometime. But for now, it seems that most long time readers of my blogs don't come from giant search engines. perhaps the most valuable lesson I've learned after more than a decade of blogging since my childhood days.
Edit2: Idea of #webring is just great. As well as having a "Links" page or section in your blog to give outlinks to other related blogs.
Ok, well, my ears are open.
Artists: if you wanted someone else to do the work making a personal site for you, what features would it need to have for you to express yourself on it to the same level you do on Social Media.
What would it need for it to be useful to you instead of a toy. #IndieWeb

(Still thinking about the #indieWeb)
Re: Censorship, I'm worried governments might start seizing people's domain names
For drawing two OCs (๐ณ๏ธโ๐) holding hands and whatnot.
I'm worried online censorship will force us into platform-only brainrot, because only platforms can deal with governments.
Content warning:eye strain, flashing
I've grabbed the Horus distortion text from Lancer's COMP/CON for my own blog :)
You can see it on the stylesheet playground page here (eye strain warning):
https://sudo-nano.github.io/posts/Stylesheet-Playground/
On that note, this is the first time I've added an eye-strainy or otherwise potentially inaccessible feature to my blog. I won't use it in an actual post until I give it an opt-in dialogue. Does anyone have a good resource on setting one up?
I'm still going to use Codeberg to share the CLI tool that @metasyn made for me to generate RSS for my site. I'm on a fresh machine so I went through the process of installing from scratch and tried to update the docs to be a little more comprehensive. I spent a long time learning about lxml while trying to understand why the original venv was no longer compatible, but have found a way to make everything work without it for now. https://codeberg.org/pixouls/PixelRSS/src/branch/main/
