From the statement on better discourse between the ActivityPub and AT Protocol communities:

We do not build a better open social web for everyone by fighting and arguing about protocol superiority. That is not how we achieve a better open social web. Instead, we must work together, cross-pollinate and share ideas, and participate within each other’s communities with respect and mutual understanding.

Co-signing. This came out of the Social Web Community Group meeting yesterday, which I wish I was participating in more often.

Ease Back into Reading with Short Stories

Last time, I wrote about how reading is down across the globe. In this post, I talk about how you can get back into reading by reading short stories. I also link to a few of them that I find interesting.

Forever balancing my personal enjoyment with #SwiftUI and my belief in the #IndieWeb and the future of the web in general

Another day of learning WebDev by failing to fix a bug that is bugging me in the software that I use:

Splash screen in wafrn is scrollable. It was weird and I said why not try to make a bug fix. Cloned a repo, and started digging.

Turns out that during splash screen thare are two elements fighting for the screen space. #indieweb {min-height: 100dvh;} and #splash {min-height: 100dvh} both want all the space.

Git blamed @sztupy for adding a indieweb microformats. A feature that I can't even get working as last commit for Firefox extension was 12 years ago.

I have dug dipper and microformats are generated only for posts and blogs so if I could display microformats only on those pages I would be happy.

I have searched for the magical @document but it was deprecated. I guess the solution must be a bit more complicated and in another part of the codebase.

Next time in my webdev adventures I will venture forth into ![media-1]

And as an aside: if anyone has the ability to edit the #IndieWeb wiki, I'd love to see TumblBee added to the list of options for exporting from Tumblr… 👀

https://indieweb.org/Tumblr#How_to_export_your_data

In case you missed it last month: I made an app! TumblBee is a friendly cross-platform tool for exporting your original #Tumblr posts and pages.

https://lilacpixel.itch.io/tumblbee

Export your content to #Markdown or HTML for use elsewhere, or keep a personal backup for your own records. It's available for Windows, macOS, and Linux (Flatpak), with pay-what-you-want pricing.

Boosts are appreciated, as always! Let me know if you find this useful or if you'd like to see more things like it :blobcatheart: (It was my birthday recently, and you'd be making my day!)

Has anyone ever done anything with microformats on the web?
I don't mean just adding it to the website, but those microformatted HTMLs being actually used for something?

We all know that overthinking is detrimental to our mental health, but the WAY we think about our experiences is a recent phenomenon. In this piece, I analyze how #Kierkegaard and #Nietzsche have approached the topic of #suffering.

after much deliberation, reading, rereading, redrafting, rearranging, and oh god that was so much work! It is finally live:

It's officially my birthday, and I started it by finalizing a custom in-house markup language for my website.

@alexwild Internet Wayback Machine...and some old Geocities URLs. BBSs (not the internet technically, I guess). It was great before social media, politics, before tech got too easy, basically before they let the stupid people on it (of course at some point, I was there too)

Check out the #indieweb and #pubnix it's still fun.

I did a little Django proof-of-concept on the fat posts with just Note and Article post types. I wanted to be sure I could have type-specific admin pages before doing the big lift on my site architecture. The key seems to be using proxy models.

does using TiddlyWiki go against the DIY smallweb ethos or am I just overthinking this because I have burnout or something?

I currently use a Github repo to deploy my personal website/blog to Netlify.

I want to move off of Github for all the reasons. I know Codeberg is often recommended, but is it ok for personal websites? I feel like such a use case is maybe beyond its TOS.

Anyone have any insight? #SmallWeb and #IndieWeb folks -- who is using a Git repo somewhere other than Github?
