I've been forming an idea in my head about sharing the blogs you subscribe to and links to interesting webpages, and after reading this blog post I learned both have already been done :o
they're called blogrolls and link blogs respectively, and I'm excited to add them to my own blog! the author also shared a very comprehensive list of independent search engines that focus on the small web
Some good reasons for starting a website, from @davatron5000.
https://daverupert.com/2025/09/why-would-anybody-start-a-website/
Gah, why does it take so long to write a thing?
This was intended as a far longer and more comprehensive piece, but in the course of writing it (and debugging the build system it's documenting part of) I realised that I could improve the next thing I was trying to write about, so I found a more or less sane stopping point.
Expect more when I've ironed out the wrinkles in the next bit. Maybe.

I've been participating in our local #Indieweb club¹ hosted by my friends @s3thi and @tanvibhakta. With their blessings, I have created a blogroll of all the wonderful writers of the club at https://abhinavsarkar.net/iwcb-blogroll/. It is great to see people #writing about all the things that interest them. #blogging

Content warning:Indieweb rant
The more I've thought of Webmentions the more I've come to think it will never take off. It's almost a solution searching for a problem. Unless some platforms come into play that support it natively it doesn't seem worth taking on the technical burden of implementation. The only real reason I would want it on my site is if I wanted to be notified another blog post mentioned it, but if the author wanted me to know about it couldn't they just send a quick email rather than submitting a one field form (as which appears to be the most common setup)? Sure this smooths out the UX a bit, but it's really not that much harder for someone to send an email, and another advantage is you're not trying to implement some kind of HTML API either along with some web service that is always up and listening for incoming messages. It just seems ridiculous to think this will ever be a big thing unless blogging platforms end up doing the work for you.
Don't even get me started on setting up a commenting system with it, people can just POSSE the link to their social media. Comments don't need to live forever, they should be ephemeral.
From the statement on better discourse between the ActivityPub and AT Protocol communities:
We do not build a better open social web for everyone by fighting and arguing about protocol superiority. That is not how we achieve a better open social web. Instead, we must work together, cross-pollinate and share ideas, and participate within each other’s communities with respect and mutual understanding.
Co-signing. This came out of the Social Web Community Group meeting yesterday, which I wish I was participating in more often.

🎂 Yesterday was my birthday, and I celebrated it with some code.
Ease Back into Reading with Short Stories
Last time, I wrote about how reading is down across the globe. In this post, I talk about how you can get back into reading by reading short stories. I also link to a few of them that I find interesting.

Another day of learning WebDev by failing to fix a bug that is bugging me in the software that I use:
Splash screen in wafrn is scrollable. It was weird and I said why not try to make a bug fix. Cloned a repo, and started digging.
Turns out that during splash screen thare are two elements fighting for the screen space. #indieweb {min-height: 100dvh;} and #splash {min-height: 100dvh} both want all the space.
Git blamed @sztupy for adding a indieweb microformats. A feature that I can't even get working as last commit for Firefox extension was 12 years ago.
I have dug dipper and microformats are generated only for posts and blogs so if I could display microformats only on those pages I would be happy.
I have searched for the magical @document but it was deprecated. I guess the solution must be a bit more complicated and in another part of the codebase.
Next time in my webdev adventures I will venture forth into ![media-1]
And as an aside: if anyone has the ability to edit the #IndieWeb wiki, I'd love to see TumblBee added to the list of options for exporting from Tumblr… 👀
In case you missed it last month: I made an app! TumblBee is a friendly cross-platform tool for exporting your original #Tumblr posts and pages.
https://lilacpixel.itch.io/tumblbee
Export your content to #Markdown or HTML for use elsewhere, or keep a personal backup for your own records. It's available for Windows, macOS, and Linux (Flatpak), with pay-what-you-want pricing.
Boosts are appreciated, as always! Let me know if you find this useful or if you'd like to see more things like it
(It was my birthday recently, and you'd be making my day!)
