Especially if the social media you're using is not yours (like your own fedi server). <br /><br />Do save your pages/ files/ texts on your computer too, not just on the server your site/ blog lives on, so they don't vanish should the host server vanish.<br /><br />Don't be afraid of shouting into the void at first. Enjoy the process of finding out what you would like to do with your site. People will find you if you want that!<br />Not ready to publish to the world? Play with the site on your computer first.         "text": "I was going to save this announcement for later, but I\u2019m just too excited: Harry Roberts will be speaking at Web Day Out!\n\nGoddamn, that\u2019s one fine line-up, and it isn\u2019t even complete yet! Get your ticket if you haven\u2019t already.\n\nThere\u2019s a bit of a story behind the talk that Harry is going to give\u2026\n\nEarlier this year, Harry posted a most excellent screed in which he said:\n\n\n  The web as a platform is a safe bet. It\u2019s un-versioned by design. That\u2019s the commitment the web makes to you\u2014take advantage of it.\n  \n  Opt into web platform features incrementally;\n  Embrace progressive enhancement to build fast, reliable applications that adapt to your customers\u2019 context;\n  Write code that leans into the browser, not away from it.\n  \n\nYes! Exactly!\n\nThing is, Harry posted this on LinkedIn. My indieweb sensibilities were affronted. So I harangued him:\n\n\n  You should blog this, Harry\n\n\nMy pestering paid off with an excellent blog post on Harry\u2019s own site called Build for the Web, Build on the Web, Build with the Web:\n\n\n  The beauty of opting into web platform features as they become available is that your site becomes\u00a0contextual. The same codebase adapts into its environment, playing to its strengths, rather than trying to build and ship your own environment from the ground up. Meet your users where they are.\n\n\nThat\u2019s a pretty neat summation of the agenda for Web Day Out. So I thought, \u201cHmm \u2026if I was able to pester Harry to turn a LinkedIn post into a really good blog post, I wonder if I could pester him to turn that blog post into a talk?\u201d\n\nI threw down the gauntlet. Harry accepted the challenge.\n\nI\u2019m sure you\u2019re already familiar with Harry\u2019s excellent work, but if you\u2019re not, he\u2019s basically Mr. Web Performance. So I harangued him:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n  <p>You should blog this, Harry</p>\n</blockquote>\n\n<p>My pestering paid off with an excellent blog post on Harry\u2019s own site called <a href=\"https://csswizardry.com/2025/01/build-for-the-web-build-on-the-web-build-with-the-web/\">Build for the Web, Build on the Web, Build with the Web</a>:</p>\n\n<blockquote>\n  <p>The beauty of opting into web platform features as they become available is that your site becomes\u00a0<em>contextual</em>.
