I used to rely almost entirely on mainstream social media and news sites.
Now, by exploring Mastodon and the IndieWeb in parallel, I get different perspectives, which helps me step back and reflect.

✨ Been busy expanding my self-hosted stack again!
Latest additions:
🌉 A couple more Matrix bridges + Maubot (finally!) for some automation fun 🤖
📸 Pixelfed for photo sharing — a lovely, quiet corner away from the algorithms
🎬 PeerTube now running too, because why not go fully decentralised?
Slowly building my own little federated ecosystem one service at a time 💜

Yes, I am going through a phase....

In the last week I've chatted about BBS history, FidoNet, and Radio with fellow #IndieWeb folks. Meshtatic reminds me of all 3. I think I'm understanding it as: a radio, non-cell, non-internet, low power device communications medium, with software apps as endpoint. https://meshtastic.org/docs/introduction/
@eoinoneill I like the idea of a trial but not as a limit (altho I get the purpose of that barrier) but as a way to explore different servers without committing to one with account credentials. So like ghost accounts? You can't post or interact but you could see what it's like (what the timeline feeds look like) if you signed up inside their server if you're joining the fediverse for the first time with them #mastodon #fediverse #indieweb
I added a cool new effect to my website! https://nathanupchurch.com/blog/let-it-snow/ #eleventy #11ty #indieweb #blog
Regarding open sign-ups, I would love mastodon to allow "Trial Accounts" as a feature for users who are still pending full approval that:
- Limits user posts to X per hour (configurable by instance)
- Requires admin approval for image publication
- Only allows users with certain email extensions for signup process (to prevent mass account spam)
These accounts could be migrated to another account like any other account, and could ease onboarding issues. #mastodon #fediverse #indieweb
Heavy snow overnight in Chicago! ...And, it's gone.

This has taken such an unbelievable (days) amount of faff, but I finally have webmention likes that I send displaying as intended, and not just as 'mentions'.

In case you missed the previous announcement, I've published the second part in my series about #Google killing the #openWeb (by proxy, via their forced deprecation of #XSLT and a fortiori #XML

The previous chapter, with a strong historical review of the last decade plus of events, is still at

One thing I would like to add to this second part is a directory of interesting #indieWeb examples of XSLT usage. Suggestions welcome.

#indieweb friends, I found a fun tool today! it's a contact form you can embed or link to from your website and people can email you easily without you listing your email to possibly get spammed
(it's from the pika blog people, too, so you know it's cool)
I wrote a #blog post about my recent experience with getting into 3D printing
There we go, part 2 of my «Google is killing the open web» series, still about the proxy war #Google is running by way of demolishing support for the best tech for indipedent, curated human websites. Yes, this is still aobut #XSLT, but it's more than that.
Less history this time, but more opportunities to talk about control, and a dream about how browsers could have been designed to avoid this takeover.

I write VST audio plugins using C++/JUCE, I'm currently learning Rust, and I love the IndieWeb and FOSS/ethical tech.
