In today's newsletter I wrote about how I've been juggling my #photography workflow and sharing process across different platforms. To solve, what might seem a small problem, I built a small tool. It stores my accounts, lets me save hashtag groups, and helps me cross-post.

I wrote more about building my own tools here: https://www.luisnatera.photo/014-a-photographers-workflow-creating-my-own-tools/

The month is half over. Go read Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud and post that fact to yr website and let me know and I'll add it to the #IndieWeb Book Club page. It's in libraries! It's online! https://artlung.com/understandingcomics-ibc/ Go! Read! Post!

So I think I'll be switching to #Apple soon 🥺🫶 My patrons all overwhelmingly use iOS devices, I want the quality point-and-shoot camera, and I found a better deal for a new Apple than anything #Android offers.

Any tips/tricks to keep some #IndieWeb sentiments alive even with how locked down & proprietary Apple tends to be with its settings/customizations & apps?

If you've been thinking about making your own website, but find the idea a bit intimidating, here's a quick five minute speedrun of making one, completely for free.

"Identity and interests can seem as if they are one and the same [...] But we are not the things we like. We are not a list of favourite records, films, books or sports teams. Nor are we our hobbies. We can express ourselves through these things and have fun doing so. Yet ultimately, it’s “what we are like” that brings something to the table"

Slowly uploading old #blog posts to my current site. Here's one about talking #music and getting old:

🎉 Finally federated!

After a truly ridiculous amount of stubbornness, debugging, and duct-taping containers together, my Ghost blog is now fully ActivityPub enabled.

You can now follow my blog directly from the fediverse:

Closed my #LinkedIn account today. Not that I ever used it much, but this is also my way of saying that I'm hitching my wagon to the #indieweb for good.

I want #11tyCMS to become #accessible, and I also want it to encourage it's users to make the #indieweb accessible by design. We'll see how it ends up, but I'm doing a lot of thinking about this right now. Already looks like we'll have to modify the Milkdown editor, but hopefully nothing too catastrophic.

I'm going to soft launch https://buroak.club/ and stop trying to put coats of paint on it or it will take forever to be "ready". BurOak Club is a #webring for south-east #Michigan. Contribute your personal site if you've got one. I'm hoping for a more official launch later in the year. If it goes well maybe we'll see more (both rings and features). Re-wild the internet. #indieweb

Phlogs are the new blogs.

I'm kidding, kind of. But my phlog, with 5 or 6 text only posts hiding under the obscure Gopher protocol, has resulted in three incoming emails from people that read something I wrote there. Meanwhile, my blog, which is presumably much more widely read has generated about the same number of incoming emails all year. Granted, most blog feedback happens here, so maybe that is not a fair comparison.

I have no idea if that means anything. I suspect phlogs are so obscure and niche that the few people hanging out in gopher space are just more willing to make the effort to send an email.

Anyway, go old school. Start a phlog. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phlog

I’ve been a software engineer for 25+ years,
and the older I get, the more I feel the value of Lo-Fi.
Handwriting, journaling, grinding coffee beans, walking with a favorite rucksack and an old camera,
watching the stars with low-power binoculars —
these flatten my mind and bring back balance.
High-tech accelerates life; Lo-Fi realigns it.

A TON of work was done on my custom CMS over the last few days. Design changes, a minor code refresh, and full mobile accessibility across the board. A full write-up will be out... eventually.

Don't mind me... Just testing out that webmentions work properly with my freshly coded website. https://simplygregario.us/blog/hello-world #WebDesign #IndieWeb #Webmentions

Found 2 bugs working on Oncle Bob (Want a site? Got HTML? Bob's your uncle!), an app to eliminate the need for terminals in building and shipping websites. One in bun.sh, one in zstandard on pub.dev. Can't wait to launch it!

We now have support for `.js` metadata and config files! Which means that the base #11ty site template is almost fully functional. Next up, we need to work on nested collection folders. Its looking pretty fantastic other than that! #11tyCMS #indieweb
