My corner of the internet is now live, fully self-hosted and built for freedom. I write about tech, politics, privacy and the world we live in.

In the #IndieWeb vein: great conversation this past weekend about #writing. We hold writing popups sporadically but maybe we can do them more regularly because (selfishly) I enjoy and learn from them. https://indieweb.org/events/2025-11-22-hwc-writing Follow the https://events.indieweb.org/tag/writing tag for future events.

I built my website https://jansandstorm.com
to escape “like-for-like” culture.
It’s now a slow space on the web.

I guess that made me part of the IndieWeb: personal, passion-driven sites for readers ( vs corporate platforms for user-accounts controlled by algorithms)?

Lovely post and reminder on how WordPress started 20 years ago. Wow. Inspiring.

> Let that sink in: the software that now powers ~43% of the web began with someone thinking out loud on their blog, and a single reply that essentially said, “yeah, I’m in.”

> So if you ever think you need a startup incubator and a 40-slide pitch deck to change the internet, remember that WordPress started as a blog post and its comment section.

As mensagens ficam mais suaves, mas o campo que vibra atrás delas fica mais estranho.
Tem algo nessa “calmaria” que não combina com o momento.
O instHub publicou uma leitura sobre esse descompasso.

For those of you who do articles and like nites or microposts how are you deciding when something fits in one category or the other. Or am I just overthinking this.

What's next for my #IndieWeb journey?

Ps Love my #Fediring neighbours too :-)

I realized recently that the problem online creators have (from an economic perspective) is that their "product" is kinda like software, in that it is free to reproduce, but unlike software, it is very interchangeable/substitutable

I wrote something about it. Put on my amateur economist hat for it as well

It should be pretty easy to render documents -up-

So here's an invitation -
https://rye.wentcloud.com/en/ltp/list-of-items/

Then go here -
And choose 'edit' document.

https://rye.wentcloud.com/en/writer/documents/1/

And then share the 'version' number of ur edit here in the comments

Version 1.0.6
was the last one.

At the moment it does not support 'markdown' rendering back up.

It does support HTML!

You can write in html.

Front End Study Hall and a counter-programmed Black Friday Create Day are *just two* of the events this week in the #indieWeb sphere. We are not large but we are mighty and we prioritize the humane hand-made web, you may enjoy joining us if the agendas and your goals match. https://events.indieweb.org

I'm becoming more and more obsessed with cultivating a digital garden. However, it turns out I have a lot of things I'd want to add to it and I'm getting a bit lost in the architecture of it. I think I just need to get started.
