Midnight watch.
Fog presses close, the sea mutters old names against the rocks.
The light turns, slow and patient, cutting holes in the dark.
If you’re awake, you’re not alone.
Some of us keep watch so others don’t drift.
The lighthouse remains.

10 Good Things About 2025
Mid-evening watch: wind easing, rain still tapping at the glass.
Dogs fed, logs checked, lights steady.
The lighthouse hums, quiet and stubborn, doing its job while the world scrolls past.
Keep warm. Keep curious.
We’ll mind the light.

Are you an open source project looking to polish up your website? I can help. I'm a full stack engineer with over 4 years experience. I built and maintain a Mozilla recommended addon. I can work with your technical stack and build fast, reliable and maintainable websites without relying on AI. Accessibility and ethical ux patterns all the way.
Remote is perfect.

Christmas nod to all Fediverse admins keeping the lights on with duct tape, Rails, shell scripts, and a healthy distrust of “just add AI”, growth hacks, and anyone promising scale before coffee.
You keep instances humane, imperfect, and running anyway.
That’s the magic.
Festive watch continues.
We see you.

I finally did it!
I've been linking my blog posts here recently to get more readers, but mostly because I wanted to integrate Mastodon directly into my site as my comment engine.
The system is now live. Replies to this post will appear on my blog!
@index aka ghost.org are raising the bar. Hat off.
Version 6 officially running on https://rjeribeiro.com, or @ricardo.

Tech Keeper recalls dial-up nights: 2400 baud, Liverpool nodes, the modem’s scream before silence. Every connection earned, every minute counted.
Latency taught patience. Scarcity taught care.
Some lessons still guide the light.
Morning watch steady.
We’ll keep it on.

Something I've toyed with but never made public on my website is the #IndieWeb idea of a "firehose" page. I think Mark Pilgrim was the first one I saw. Today I made it. https://artlung.com/firehose/ It includes my MetaFilter posts and limits to 30 so the oldest post is 24 years old. Whoosh.
I think I've finally got it in a good spot where I'm comfortable sharing, so here is my personal indieweb site that I've been working on for a while now!

What do you think of it? I've been working very hard on it and it is only using html/css/js and no frameworks.
Awesome thing about the ØɄ₮₴łĐɆ webring: Joining the webring is automatic. No email submission process, no pull requests on GitHub; just read the rules, put the links on your site and... join the webring. That's it. Easy, right?
My December Adventure detoured into an implementation of IndieAuth. I need an authenticated section to process the pending Webmentions before they're made visible to the public. Instead of maintaining my own credentials, I wanted to stay in the IndieWeb spirit and authenticate against my own website and its rel=me links. Success!

I've removed image transform from my 11ty site, I was concerned about build time and resource usage once I start to bring legacy content across, replcing it with a webp conversion action in automator on my images folder. Pagination is the final item left on my initial todo list, but is trickier than it should be due to the dynamic filtration in my templates. #notes #indieweb #eleventy #changelog

New post on @thedigitalrenaissance: On: Apple's Exec-sodus
Apple’s big, sweeping changes at the executive level can cause chaos, but there’s also potential for a lot of good here

Is there a service that can analyze people's RSS reading feeds and visualize the connections between them?
But perhaps the death of search is good for the future of the web. Perhaps websites can be free of dumb rankings and junky ads that are designed to make fractions of a penny at a time. Perhaps the web needs to be released from the burden of this business model. Perhaps mass readership isn’t possible for the vast majority of websites and was never really sustainable in the first place.
Afternoon commuters: the wind’s up, the rain’s sideways, and the lighthouse is holding steady. Winter is definitely here on the #IsleOfMan Dogs exercised up and down the lighthouse steps.
Servers are behaving, logs are quiet…
and yes — we mix tools when it makes sense. Containers and bare metal, right tool for the job 😜
Travel safe. We’ll keep the light on.
